480 DB Owners Club

Well, I donated an anchor to the sea gods last night. Swivel broke in the middle of the night during winds in the outer part of Sag Harbor. Thankfully I woke when the winds shifted and got fired up on to a mooring. Only thing bad was the loss of a good anchor... Be sure to check the swivels guys... btw anyone know if it’s a 44 or 35lbs delta fast set?
Same thing happened to me yesterday. 60 LB SS model. Have used a float and follower for the past two boats - we had to move our raft up to a different location Saturday afternoon, and the slip knots didn't pop the float to the surface and I didn't worry about it - THE ONE TIME I NEEDED IT! You can't make this up. Mine broke in the same place.

Sorry for your issues too, I just put the new one on the boat yesterday. New SS Swivel, and shackle. I went with a Maxwell swivel rather than the Suncor ones like what was on there. I was looking for one Made in the USA, however everyone of them at defender was made in China.

Above is the one I went with.. Found the anchor on ebay from this guy. Seemed to be the cheapest around with free shipping... https://www.ebay.com/str/wakezonemarine

I replaced my 60 Lb. Polished Stainless Anchor last year with a new one from the OEM, through Sea Ray. New one was $4k. I have the old one, but it is not in new condition.

The pleated blinds on my 2002 480DB have separated from the top of the window frame on the starboard side. The opaque ones are fine, but when I pull down the blackout ones, they simply slide entirely down the guide strings. I tried double sided tape, but that only lasted a couple of months. Before I get the hot glue gun out, I thought I'd see if anyone else had this issue and how they resolved it.
Thanks in advance for your insight and advice.

Duckbills - I called SeaRay support and was told my 2002 480DB needed 2" duck bills and they provided contact information for Dometic. I checked with Dometic and they said the 480DB needed 1.5" duckbills.

I'm sure many of you have replaced their duckbills; did you use 2" or 1.5" ones?

Thanks

Same thing happened to mine so I replaced all the blinds.

They are 1.5”, the same size as the hose.

Has anyone replaced the blinds/shades in the Salon? and curtain for sliding glass door? If so where did you get them? source? Thanks

I replaced my 2001 480DB salon shades by United Shades of Indiana order from Blinds Chalet 888-633-7840. Style: Day and night RV shades. Day: Alabaster, Night: Cellular Buff, Rail: Sea Oyster

WDR, I took my 5" gold light fixtures to a automotive paint shop where they painted them to match the satin nickel color of all the knobs I replaced in the boat. I then replaced the halogen bulb with LED. Very inexpensive but time consuming. I prepped the bezels for painting. I also did all the gold outlet covers to match as well. Next time down I will get a pic for you.
Did you also replace/repaint the gold trim that runs along/under the edge of the counter tops? and upper cabinets?

Haven't gotten to door hardware yet, but watching. Anyone know the part numbers for the head vaccum tank pump, one sounds like a monkey hitting it w/ a hammer. Also, anyone got a parts diagram on the sliding glass door into the salon --- 2003/4 vintage? Thanks
The vacuflush systems in my 2001 480DB are Dometic Vacuflush model VG12. I have attached the owners manual, which contains a drawing with all the parts numbers.

I'll be washing down in a couple hours, will check. When I had it surveyed I specifically asked the guy to check all the frames, gaskets, sealant and he said all was fine. I have noticed when I rinse or it rains, there is a bead of water that trickles down on both sides near the farthest point aft. Even after things are dried off. So it does seem there's a collection point along the bottom edge aft.

I'm replacing anchor foot switch covers, finishing sound system upgrade, changing racers, finishing putting snaps on the inside of the bridge hardtop so I don't have to roll up anymore isin, installing snaps on a new light colored windshield cover, and finishing templates up for new carpet runners throughout. Nice, relaxing way to spend a day off. If anyone needs the templates, just drop me a line.
Can you please give me the details on the replacement anchor foot switch covers. Can you buy just the covers and not the whole switch?

Yes, the white plastic ones are about $20 each, made by IMTRA. Someone found a stainless version but I can't remember where.

No, Tried to brass wool it out in a concealed spot but it dulled to much for my liking. That little bit of gold is not that noticeable. Might replace the sink faucets also to get rid of the gold.

On a different subject. "Our Place" might be going up for sale. I might be retiring early and won't be able to keep/maintain her. Figures, I just about have it finished the way I want it. Some say the 2 happiest days are the ones you purchase and sell your boat. Funny, I don't feel that way.

This is what was on mine when I measured it back in 2010.

I replaced it with black and silver. I don't recall the width of what I replaced it with, but it was similar. I also had them move the bottom paint line up a bit.

How much did you raise the bottom paint line? Can you please send or post a photo of the side of your boat showing the new line? Thanks!

Does anyone's washer/dry door get locked shut even when it's turned off? It is at the end of the dry cycle and there are times it just wont open... wait a couple of hours, and it'll open right up... weird... Open to ideas.
I am having the same problem. Did you ever figure out how to fix it? Thanks!
