I have designed and tested 48LED underwater lights on my 39 ft Sea Ray Express that are made of polycarbonate plastic. They are a fully sealed unit that can be mounted on the outside of the boat transom or under the swim platform.
Since I am a boater myself I realize the voltage variances in boating do to generators and battery chargers. LED’s hate voltage spikes so these units have an exclusive patented circuitry to protect against over-current and can be operated at 12, 18, or 24 volts. If they see to much voltage they will simply dim down and then come back to full power.
LED’s will last for 50,000 hrs.
These lights are high powered LED lights; they are available in green, blue or white.

I have also run the 48 LED lights on my car to see how long they will last under everyday driving conditions and to make sure they are ok out of water.
One can see next to the fog light just how bright the 48 LED’s are. They have been on my car for the past year turned on along with the fog lights every time I drive the car with no problem. (It is real neat to see signs such as white speed signs reflect with a blue hue.)

As can be seen on the last picture there is some sealer that has come through by the LED's: the sealer does not hurt anything it was just that more sealer was used then needed on these first run units. That is why they are being sold for $50.00 instead of $90 apiece. If any problem with them under normal use, send them back and I will replace them.
For anyone that is a member of the Sea Ray Club they are available for $50.00 dollars each plus shipping.

Is the price $50 per housing or per light? How many housings do you need on a 30ft w/ extended swim platform? Do they illuminate better underwater or on transom underwater? thanks RF

Mounting them under water will light up the water from the transom out and the water gives the light more of a magnified effect. Mounting them to the swim platform will give off more of a over all light effect with out the magnification of the water.

The lights are $50 for each unit.

Is there enough wire attached to these lights to get back into the er or do you have to make some water-proof connections out underneath the swim platform?

I don't know if it is possible or not, but I would like to SEE the difference in light between the transom mounting and the swim platform mounting, if you (or anyone) can show me pics.

How well would one light work under the extended swim platform of a 28' SS just for effect? Where I boat in Boston, the water is not clear enough to mount the light underwater.

As for one light; yes it will light up the water and give a nice effect under a swim platfrom if the water is not clear.
The lights were being tested this past summer and no pictures were taken until I was positive the lights were trouble free. That also included after pulling the boat in the fall to make sure everything was ok.
The pictures of the underwater light advertisment of the ones that are not LED and how bright they are; these 48 LED lights stand up quit well next to them.

Anyone interested use the private message site to order them.
The web site is under construction for the lights.

"LOVE THAT DIRTY WATER>>>BOSTON YOUR MY HOME"Charles River water is Brackish/Brown so lights dont reflect well....

I am assuming that you can wire these together in the transom area and bring one set of wires up front, correct? 18 gauge wire?
Also, how many would you recommend for a 30' with extended platform?

The lights can be wired into one wire set as you had asked. On my boat I ran the wire to a spot on the inside of the transom and installed a switch. At first it was just easier to wire it there. Then I found that while sitting on the back of the boat I would think of turning on the the lights and the switch was right there handy.

I'm not sure, but I think that I have a spare switch on the dash that can be used for this.
