48 DA Owners Club

Hello to everyone:
Read this thread from the start, interesting data.
Am familiar what to look for during a boat purchase.
Going to look at some 48DA's. Are there any items/areas pertaining to
the 48DA I should pay additional attention?

Also wondering if anyone would have a 48DA standard/option list in pdf form.
Thanks in advance

Main issues I came across with these boats when looking were:

Deferred maintenance of cooling system on the motors;
Lack of annual oil changes on the transmissions;
Leaking windscreens as evidenced by puddle of water on the dash at the corners of the screen;
Leaking rudder shaft seals;
Bilge paint starting to flake off in parts;
Timber verneer delamination and splitting issues on the cabinetry;
Milky veneer cabinetry.

Also check:

Play in the rudder support brackets;
Loose/leaking large triple cabin windows.

I may have an options list but would need to check.

Saw a bunch of posts ago you were considering the SV20 LED Retrofit for your underwater lights and then looked at another option. May I ask which way you finally went and how happy you are with the decision?

Also, can't take credit regarding the panel observation. Came up in a conversation with @Aml327
I went with the Lumitec Seablaze X2's and I added two. One on Port and Starboard. I wish I would have added two on each side for a total of 8. I could have probably got away with not glassing up the SV20 holes but I decided to do so. I didn't want to have to worry about them leaking. I also added a POCO controller so I can control the lights from my phone. They were on sale at Amazon and I'm very happy with them for the price. I think they're a great SV20 replacement.

Ok here is the deal on the sump box cover. Yes they can make it with the clear removable panel.

With an acrylic door we'd be looking at $385.37.

This is assuming a stainless non-locking latch. If you went with a plastic latch the price would go down a little bit.

Single Panel Removable Door w/ Acrylic Door
https://www.boatoutfitters.com/build-your-own-starboard-single-panel-removable-door
Outside Dimensions: 10.125" x 21.75"
Cutout Dimensions: 8.375" x 20"
Pass-through Dimensions: 6.25" x 17.875"

Any body else interested? They are willing make a deal ($325 each for 5 at once) but they want it on one order, one payment and one shipping address, that does not work for me as I am not a shipping company. If we can get enough orders together in one shot they may budge on that if I pressure them. Let me know as I want to order one but willing to wait to see if we can get more sold at once.

I'm sure it would look awesome and be very functional. If I didn't already do this, I'd be in. Here was my poor man's approach.

I'm in, and thank you pulling this together. If you can't get enough interest I'd still like to order.

@ocgrant I believe I read in an earlier post that you had moved to a Water Witch switch in the sump box. Did this help reduce the number of times you need actually access the sump box for cleaning? Guess curious as I just install the Water Witch.

Hi Gang,

Great thread going here with a ton of great info.

Just sold my cruiser of 15 yr. Now starting the process of doing due diligence about the 48 DA and browsing current boats for sale. 2005-2010 models.

Do all the aft cabins of the 48s have the single beds that slide together or is that an option, with some using cushions to combine the two singles?

What speeds can you run these boats with the generator running? On plane my cruiser would lose prime so the generator was only available at idle or slow speed.

Most of the 2010 models have the pods. Was that a bad year for them? I know it was early on in the use of the pod drives. Some boats I’ve seen advertised as having all the pod “updates”. That make any difference?

Regards

Welcome! If you're looking for or own a 48 Sundancer, you've found the right place. I think this forum is priceless and adds to the great value the 48 Sundancer is. I've never had any issues running at any RPM with the generator running. I've done long distances at 2400-2700 RPM and it's never hiccuped. I'll let others chime in as there's others that are far more knowledgeable. I always learn something on here. Try SeaBoard's site too. Great info and help on the QSC's. https://www.sbmar.com/ Enjoy!

2010 Pod boat owner here. Bought it last year and put 100 hours on her from june to oct here in NY.
Love them. Great boat! Ask me anything.

ok got a lot done today running wire and mounting gear. Doing redundant systems nema 2k and Onan panel on the same install. Just got back to the house as I was waiting on one harness adaptor that arrived this afternoon. Should have it all running tomorrow. Still need to get the Maretron 4" monitor on the N2K network but that is rather simple. Need to stop at BOW tomorrow morning and grab a couple of N2K drop cables and should be plug and pray at that point for the smoke test. Then I need to learn how to program this Maretron stuff..... Looks pretty straight forward but hoping for some of Tom's (TTMOT) screen shots to guide me along. Very excited as I want to learn more about expanding my N2K network in the near future.

In over three years of ownership I have never had a problem with the Generator. It has never shut off by itself or lost prime. Im my opinion the genny is bulletproof and will give you years of service with only oil changes and regular maintenance. All 48 Sundancers came with the twin/double bed configuration in the rear cabin. I have found that the rear guestroom is actually very comfortable as long as you keep your head down as it has low headroom. It is very easy to slide the one bunk over to make the double bed. Mine had shafts so I do not know about pods but would like to hear more about pods from other owners. In general the 48 Sundancer is a great boat that is very easy to maneuver around the dock and looks good from all angles. I have never owned a boat that has gotten more positive and glowing comments from friends and strangers about how nice it looked. Truly a great boat.

Ok so after Dave caught the issue with the measurement for the outer dimension not being the same as the Sea Ray Sump size I called Theo back and he said they can make it to the exact size but again more custom and of course that means $$$. So in the end here are the options. Not looking like that many people want to spend that much on the sump and I understand, personal preference. I get it but I see it as a nice upgrade as I check my sump weekly as my A/C's run all the time here in FL and use the boat every weekend so sump needs attention and full access with this quickly makes it worth it in my book. So here is the deal

Single panel removable door w/ acrylic door and custom extended flange:
Price: $485.37

Single panel removable door w/ Starboard door and custom extended flange:
Price: $323.97

Since there does not seem to be enough interested parties to get a deal, if you want one just call Boat Outfitters and speak with Theo to hook you up. I am going to order mine tomorrow.

Nice, did you have it pre-pre programmed to work on your N2K or are you doing a monitor?

@Aml327 said he has all that I need to program it. He's local and graciously offered to help.

Thats great... You are lucky. I got my new J2k100 so hope to solve my issues from last week and get this up and running this weekend. I also got all of my Peplink and Linksys parts to install the WiFi system so going to try and knock that out also. Two weekends of running wires... Getting tired of that crap.

Did you have your new one pre programmed?
We are expecting another nor'easter on Sunday. I'll take running wires!

No, I have the DSM410 and Tom (TTMOT) posted the programming steps in the other thread on this. Seems pretty straight forward. Looking forward to learning as I plan to add more N2K stuff so the 410 is a must have. Yea our weather is on the cold side also...78 this weekend might have to turn off the cockpit AC while working. Sorry had to rub it in....

Where are these sumps you guys are adding the clear lids to located on the boat?

Thanks
