48 DA Owners Club

Yep, back to the fact that the 48 is a hard boat to beat! Ohh, and one big factor in my decision that I forgot to mention, where am I going to find another forum like this one? The help that you all provide is of tremendous value! Thanks all!
This is true. I still keep an eye on this thread. There is nothing like it anywhere...

Game on!!!

Grant, you decide where you're mounting the panel?
Well... not 100% sure yet. Since I am installing redunancy with a Maretron monitor and a Onan panel I am trying to figure out the real estate issue I have on my dash area. I was going to hid the Onan panel in back by the fuel control switches but... it is just too nice and has valuable info I would love to have visible. I think what I am going to do is remove the Raymarine i70 and replace it with the Maretron since it can do more than what the i70 can do for me and is the same foot print it looks like. As far as the Onan I might mount it on the starboard wall above the helm switches. Need to investigate for space a little more. Was also debating putting it above the cup holders next to the cabin door on that empty panel, great area as I could mount the maretron model and this together but then I feel it is getting too "gaugey" with just too much crap. I remember seeing that guys boat that had all the stereo stuff everywhere and he mounter a MFD there and I just felt it was too much. So for now just getting started and working from the geneset forward running Onan harness and N2K cables. Next weekend will be the final placement decision and hole cutting.

Grant did you resolve the pre-heat and shutdown alarm issue or are you giving in to pre-heating and shut down at the salon panel?

I think SHAPS figured that out and while the main on/off switch will still be at the panel I am not concerned about it myself. This is mainly for monitoring. It will give me monitoring, pre-alarms, and alarms if there is an issue vs waiting and reacting to pulling flashing codes from the panel and reading the code descriptions in the manual.

JB,
When I spoke to Cummins about the preheat/prime they told me that holding down the stop button on this remote will do the same thing.
Of course, with the main breaker down below, I think the start/stop is of dubious value, but good to know that it should function as intended.

Now you got me thinking about another project for the Spring :) Let us know how it goes and your final thoughts after your installation.

Good luck,
JB

don't forget about that additional Smartcraft resistor if you are mounting the Maretron box in the engine room or an additional Smartcraft connector if you are going off a Smartcraft J-box under the helm....
Tom I think I already have it???

Why did you repair Jumper W5?
It is cut because there is a Smartcraft yellow capped resistor on that end (the end that plugs into the NIM) of the Smartcraft cable. It should remain cut.

As a BTW in case you missed it but in all of our data networks (twisted pair, NMEA 2000, Smartcraft, J1939, SeatalkNG, etc) there needs to be a terminating resistor at both ends of the data backbone. In this case there is one inside of the Generator's electrical enclosure and one where the wire ends into the Maretron J2K100 converter.

Tom,
I am follow AML327 using this connector, he cut 2 and repaired 5

Nim is done correctly. It will now send out data in 1939 language which the Maretron will translate to the n2k network.
