Well yesterday finally got me my IKEA (LOL) table installed next to my BBQ giving me some working area while cooking. Best $9.99 disposable table top out there

I'm trying to decide to change the oil filters and water pump impellers myself or have the mechanic do the project. I would like the experience but not sure if I want to spend the time. What do you guys do with your boats on this type of maintenance?

It's pretty easy.

I do it... I like to know the critical maintenance items are done correctly. Peace of mind for me

Obviously it depends on your skill level and access to the part in question. Like my Dad, I was a Mechical Engineer and grew up working on boats, tractors, etc.

Do you service your own lawn mower (oil and plugs), do you change plugs or brake pads on your car? If so, boat oil changes and impeller changes are easy.

Oil changes - easy on the 340 with a Jabsco pump; filters were easy to access, so were the transmissions. 410 had a Reverso for the engines and genny; easy. Jabsco for the transmissions. Port oil filter outboard and hard to change. Stbd fuel filter outboard and hard to change. The 58 has a Reverso for all five systems, but each engine has two cannister type oil filters that are hard to handle (messy). Each engine holds 10 gallons of oil and its a PITA to get it to disposal.

Impeller access - my 340's port impeller was a PITA. The 410;s stbd impeller required removing a large exhaust pipe and working outboard of the engine (tight). My MAN impellers are both aft of the engine and easily changed.

Time - I enjoy working with the "Details" of servicing my boat. Generally, my "MAN man" does all this with his annual service. I've done it once for the "fun" of it, but I have the time. My dockmate, with the same 58, is an EVP at a large bank and he doesn't touch anything - including washing. When he gets to the boat on Friday, he wants it ready to go. On Monday he calls in whatever gave him problems to the marina service dept. His service bills are large.

Susan and I enjoy washing our boat together. Polishing and waxing is done by the pros - only $30 a foot in Chattanooga - a value. Others here on the forum take great pride in personally doing that task. I still do our cars, but the boat is too much for me to do.

Sorry this is so long winded, go back to the beginning - have you done services on lawnmowers and cars? If so, go for it. If not, call someone or get a friend to help. Do you have time during the week? go for it - if not, don't waste precious boating time on it - but get it done!

How often are you guys cleaning out the shower / ac / sink sump inside? I did mine this week and what a mess. Full of rust from the AC units the float switch had stopped working. Since I got the boat in January this thing had little to no use in many years. Since I spent a few nights on her at the dock looks like all my use just flushed everything into there and plugged her up pretty good. Looking like this will need to be cleaned monthly now for sure.

I thoroughly clean mine the 1st of every month. This is also when I clean my A/C strainers. I also drop an Oxy-Kem packet in each one prior to closing back up.

This is mine after 4 months and a quick rinse. We shower every weekend... Trick is not to use bar soap and I add teaspoon of noflex maybe twice a month thru the shower drain

Does anyone know where to get replacement wiper blades?
Sea Ray parts manual literally describes it as
" WIPER BLADE, 32" EUROPEAN "
not exactly helpful...

Thanks!

I took mine off, went to NAPA and found an exact match.

I installed a deck hatch onto the plexiglass cover to have easy peasy access to the sump box for cleaning on regular basis. Only use liquid soaps and add directly to the sump a cleaning agent on a regular basis when you are running so it sloshes around and helps clean the sump.

Thanks carterchapman I think I’m going to try it as I’m pretty handy on working on things.

The 58's came with that access cover - makes monthly cleaning easy - esp since they put the sink discharges back to overboard (via the common drains ) on the 58's. We are with you using the liquid soap...

Lumitec Orbit lights (4 color) p/n 112520 with the Orbit adaptor p/n 101073. Yes replaced the dimmer/rocker switch with with a latching switch SPST that I grabbed at West marine, ran a pair of 16 gauge wire from the switch to the dimmer location since the 22 gauge wire that was there for the dimmer was to small to handle that current (orange, green white wires). Used the one of the existing wires to provide ground for the new switch LED. Did all the wiring at the old dimmer location as the ground bar and power are all there. Took about an hour to trace and wire every thing for the switch to work correctly. Each light to replace took 5 minutes, super simple. If you need help I can talk you through this over the phone it is that simple.
ocgrant, do your lights dim as well as change colors? Exactly which latching switch did you go with that worked?

Great memories of Cedar Creek. We boated there in the 50's and 60's when I was growing up in Nashville...Who do you know at Erwin? Woody Woodring is here and he is still a Cedar Creek member even though he now lives in ATL...
