48 DA Owners Club

Loving this new Siren Alarm my buddy gave me!!! Got most of my toys connected now and it works great. Love the piece of mind that I will get a text alert if there is an issue. Well worth it I must say. Super easy install and great customer service. Between my dock camera and this my boat is fully monitored.

More time consuming than difficult. Read all about it plan your system and what you want to monitor. I hardwired everything that made sense based on how hard it was to run wires then used wireless sensors for the rest. Set up is very easy and their support is fantastic.

Hi fellow 48 brethren! 4th season with our 2007. LOVE IT! Just rebuilt the turbo waste gates this winter. argh... but they are good to go, and the ER has been detailed. Question for you - My wife complains about the lack of long hanging storage for her clothes (front bunk has really small and short lockers - our old 42 DA was much better in this respect). We don't use the aft bunk for anything other than luggage storage. Anybody have a solution to add hanging storage in the aft bunk? Wondering if there is some sort of expanding rod idea (maybe shower curtain rod that twists out) that could be installed when we travel and removed when we don't need the extra storage? Any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

The admiral had me put one of these on the wood trim that goes around the wrinkle master. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MSB2QJY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you don't use the back bathroom I would look to SeaSucker and make a rod set up to put in that shower area. With a couple of SeaSuckers and a wood rod cut to size you should be able to make something that would stay in place and be portable without the need for holes in the boat. As far as a shower rod i don't think it would hold in place with weight and seas, plus I would be afraid of damage to the vinyl.

This is a great idea! I have two old sea sucker mounts sitting around that I’ve been waiting for years to figure out what to do with! Used in the aft shower, at the very least you have an extra towel hanging rack.

Back to the Generator on N2K network

I followed @Aml327 and @ocgrant
Even had @Aml327 down for help and support.
We repaired jumper W5 and cut W2
Put the board back in, connected the Maretron J2k100 to the deutsch 12 pin connector via maretrons cable. J2k100 into the N2k network. All pretty straightforward.
Key on the genset, start it up. See the J2k100 on the network but it is not seeing any data.
Called maretron, they had me check pin-outs on their cable, all looked ok.
We added a terminator on the J1939 side of the J2K100 to make sure it wasn't that. Still no joy. Maretron calls Cummins/Onan. They agree it seems the J2k is not getting any J1939 data. Have me call cummins. They tell me they are not aware of the modification I did, but happy to tell me about their NIM board that puts out J1939 data. Alternatively, I can call my local onan/cummins guy who can check to see if the modified board is indeed putting out J1939 data.
Is there a way to see if the NIM is putting out J1939 data without the cummins siftware, etc.
By my math, *IF* i call my cummins guy, by the time i pay for travel and his time, only to tell me its a bad board, I would be ahead if I just bought their J1939 NIM.

Also, cummins couldn't (or wouldn't) confirm that the smartcraft NIM and the J1939 NIM are the same except for different jumper configurations. Any thoughts here?
Thanks!

Edit:
Maretron told me i could test the can-Hi and Can-Lo pins for voltage. He said I shoudl expect 3-5volts in pulses. I did not see those, I saw millivolts. This was with the GenSet energized and the power on, but NOT with it running although it was running previously.

Couple thoughts:
Did you set the instance number to 10?
The Onan documentation says the generator needs to be up and running to enable data transmission. I don't think mine will work with just the generator set to on.
Can you see the NIM while the generator is running? Here's some info on how to read the green LEDs:

I did TeamViewer with marathon. They set the instance to 2. We did test while running as well with the same result. I should have been more specific, I tested the voltage when it was on but not running. All other tests were done with the generator running.
I did not see any green LEDs that I recall.. maybe a bad NIM?

You have green lights on the nim? Did you plug in the other remote you bought, data displaying on it will show the nim is alive.

Is this the cable you used from nim to JK?

What are you programming the J2K with? Was it pre-programmed from Maretron?

What is the source address?

Also, FWIW, I left Jumper 5 alone when I set mine up. Why did you repair it?

Used the maretron usb100 on my laptop.
Had maretron online w me. They were the ones trying to get it done.

I fixed the jumper W5 on mine because somewhere it said to reconnect that but you might cut it and see if it works.
