On the 480CE installed in the 2005 460, there is an issue called stall/stumble. On the boat I owned, it only reared it's head when starting a fully warmed engine. It would start then immediately die. On the second start attempt all was fine. I never had it die after a successful start. The fix was to have Cummins update the ECM. No problems after that. The ECM controlled 480CE idled fine at the set 600 as well as the slow idle of 550.

Thanks! There were some murmurs about a stall issue, but no one had a definitive answer.
    I'll pass this along.

Anyone here have a 2017 or newer 460 DA? I'm looking at one and I have a few questions.

Thanks Mitch. Unfortunately, I'm only a lowly silver member, so I can't see the page you refer to. I'll probably upgrade my subscription.

But anyway - the types of questions I have may only be answerable by people that have owned these models. For instance: are there any nagging design flaws that became apparent after owning/operating for a while? I like to do my own maintenance, how is engine maintenance, I notice that they don't have a built-in oil change pump - has anyone installed one. Are all maintenance items easily accessible, particularly impellers? Any issues with the exhaust configuration?

Actually it looks like your silver has expired. I'm sure the Captains can help with some, if not all of your questions or concerns.

So I toured the 2017 460 DA today. Great layout, but two issues come to mind. Not a lot of deck storage for things like lines, fenders and longer things like brushes and gaffing hooks. Where do you put ice to keep it frozen? There’s no icemaker and the fridges have tiny little freezer compartments.

    Hi Everyone,
Well, for us in Northern Michigan it's boat storage time...which means fun project time for 7 months...So, I started with the new dinghy we bought in late July. It needed some tunes in it. I know this isn't an upgrade to the 460...but it is an upgrade to what hangs off its back end. :)

A JL Audio Bluetooth receiver connected to a 500 x 4 JL amp with two M-6 Coax and an M-8 sub. The black with titanium grilles really matched the dingy colors perfectly. And since we were going that far we might as well get the back-lit JL speakers with full spectrum color control...LOL

After the dingy upgrade I decided to follow suit from a couple others on here and re-directed the sink drain overboard as opposed to the sump. I have grown tired of pouring coffee and wiping dirty plates out the back end of the boat. All that to avoid cleaning the sump...well, those days are over!! As much as I hated drilling a drain hole in the port side, I really hated the sink issue and its limitations.

So, here it is all done!!

Nice job on the thru hull but how much does that tender weigh? I assume it is on a hydraulic platform, GHS or other?
Must say, you always have some interesting projects and get great results.

The dingy is an aluminum hull and weighs 550 lbs. with a 25 HP Yamaha. I purchased it in Oakville Ontario...yep, drove right by you in July to go pick this up! Its a Highfield and we purchased it at CO2 Inflatables. (They have a store in Midland too).

The lift is similar to the Hide-A-Davit system...hydraulic for sure. The platform is stationary and the lift is mounted under it. Pretty slick set up....

    Quick update:
Upgraded my CSR account to gold so that I could again ping the captains.
Had a conversation with both Frank and Rusty, including a long phone call with Rusty. Man these guys are such a great resource.
That conversation led me to avoid a newer 510DA and put in an offer on a 2017 460DA. Supposed to close on it next week and drive it around Michigan from Grand Haven to Detroit area. Praying for the weather to remain stable, or she may end up in storage in West Michigan for the winter. BTW: unlike my previous comment, this model does have a reverso oil change pump, the manual did not include it, but I confirmed it is on board.

Does anyone know the year that SeaRay redesigned the 460 from the old school sweeping Sundancer look to the newer boxy European look? I'd like to know who might have experience with this layout. I'm more of a fan of the old school look, but the cabin layout of the newer 460 really fits us perfectly and allowed me to get everything I wanted without going to a 50+ boat (which would have required a marina change).

Here are some pictures of the new vessel:

Excellent! Aluminum is the way to go. I have a Walker Bay console from '08 with a 30hp Nissan 4 stroke and probably weighs about the same, maybe slightly more. It was the lightest tender that I could get at the time. We will probably take it on our trip to Georgian Bay next summer but generally I leave it behind on the big trips when we go to Mackinac / Charlevoix, into "your lake". We did Sturgeon Bay this past summer and shot across to Frankfort. Sorry, didn't have time to stop at Elk Rapids though.

Our boat gets lifted this afternoon and into warm hibernation. Oh well.

The 460 that we all have was made from 1999-2005. (There was another 460 in the early nineties with CAT power.) The model changed very little over those years with Cummins, CAT or Volvo power and was replaced by the 48 Sundancer. I believe that the "new" 460, the one you describe with the doors, only came out in the past two years. Very nice boat and it gives more inside "salon" living than the previous 460. Yes, the lines are different.... Congratulations on your purchase!

That's great! We take ours everywhere and enjoy tooling around in it wherever we go. Last summer when we headed to Frankfort then Green Bay we stopped at South Manitou and dropped it to cruise around the entire island. If you could see all the "tracks' on my GPS this summer you would get a kick. It became a mission to make sure I splashed the dingy just to get the tracks on the Garmin...lol

Have a great winter! The last 2 boats were finally put into my storage facility yesterday so the door is closed for the winter.

Congrats on the new boat...You might want to check which harbors will still be open on this side of the pond for fuel. I know that our harbor closes Sunday and many others close on October 15th which is only a few days away. I am pretty sure Leland closes on the 15th as does Charlevoix, Traverse City & Elk Rapids.
Not sure about Frankfort but I am guessing their municipal dock may be open for fuel as there are still quite a few fisherman going out.

    Just a thought!!

Great point. You're correct, that is a big challenge. Found Charlevoix, Mac City (by appointment) and Port Sanilac will provide fuel through the end of the month, so that should get us home, with some buffer.
