460 DA Owners Thread

I thought about plumbing them together too but I think you want all the pressure you can get. They do come with check valves but I added quick connect fittings as well.

Well I can't let The Wolf get all the "Winter" Credit. We've been busy in Texas too!

So Far, we painted the engines, rebuilt the turbos, replaced all hoses, powercoated the aftercoolers, elbows, and piping. Also replaced wire loom and zipties. Just generally freshened everything up. Still have raw water hoses and Exhause painting as well, but I got side tracked installing a new Furuno Autopilot!

I still have the Genset to do as well as paint the turbos with Ceremic high heat paint and replace the fuel coolers which I also had powercoated.

For reference I used Rust-Oleum Canvas White paint with some Majic hardener added. I handpainted everthing after wire brushing and treating with Ospho.

There are 6 engine room lights which are Lumitec Ibiza and there is such thing as "wire loom tape" which is absolutely amazing and available on Amazon.

The after bilge under the Genset is painted with Interlux Bilge Kote Gray and I plan to expand this once I finish he other detail work back there.

Lastly, I have a local friend who made the decals on the engines so they all look nice and new as well for a final touch.

I posted this in the Cummins forum too but I figure it’s relevant here!

If you see anything out of the ordinary feel free to let me know.

Curious as to the powder coating of the aftercoolers. Any benefits there over traditional cummins paint or the rustoleum canvas white. Also, will the high heat paint on the turbo and tubes keep it from going to that tan color or does it just prevents it from peeling?

The powder coating is much nicer then the paint because it is so much smoother. Just cleans up easy and looks great. Color wise it’s the same as paint so no worries on that part. I also powder coated the cooling pipes, exhaust elbow, and anything else I had removed. It’s much easier to have it powder coated versus preping and painting on your own so that’s a bonus too.

As far as the high heat paint, I’m still in the testing phase. Give me 3 months and I can give you a better opinion. I’m trying to be able to keep the color from turning that brown you speak of but we will see.

Good evening, I hope everyone is getting ready for a great Thanksgiving. I went to the boat
today, hit the power button for the Bow Thruster on the panel and then turned on the thruster itself, moved it left and right a couple times then the power went out back on the power button on the panel. I am sure there is a breaker or fuse somewhere that I cannot find. Any ideas?

Like Jaws said, look for the fusible link in the engine room, on the forward bulkhead.

Do you have your rear deck off? I would love to see that.

Yea, getting engine rebuilt. I had a coupler go bad and had to remove the back deck to pull the engine and tranny apart. I decided to change the oil pan gasket while I had the engine lifted. My mechanic said given the recent oil analysis, we should check the bearings while we were there...leading to the rebuild. I did the other side last year so at least I'll have 2 newly rebuilt engines! I'll take a picture of the back deck opening and send it to you.

Not particularly, my port side crank was damaged and no oversized bearings or replacement cranks available. I ended up buying a used engine in Europe and rebuilding it instead of the original.

We have pretty poor Volvo support in Chattanooga as well. I have two dock mates - one 460DA and a Carver 53 Voyager with Volvo's - and they don't have much luck with Volvo service. Our marina is now selling Cruisers, and the service dept claims they will get Volvo training....

Cool. Thanks for posting.

I emailed the company about those impeller tools. Holy smokes almost a grand for a set?!

I asked about a set figuring there must be 5-8 different models. Maybe I am way wrong and there are a bunch. Anyway it seems like a reasonable idea but I’ll just do it with a zip tie for free
