Where do I put the other one?????????????????

Under the 2 Captain's seats facing up?
Under the Center Captains seat facing port?
Under the Stbd Lounge seats facing port, toward the other sub? This area would not allow the speaker to sit flush. I'd have to build up the area around the sub.

    I'm Leaning toward #2.

Nice job on the first. Do you think you need 2? How does it sound with just the one?

I sounds great, but, it is a little heavy on bass specifically in the area where the 1st subwoofer is mounted. I need to move some bass to stbd and/or forward in the cockpit. The only drawback to position #2 above is that it isn't very far stbd - it's dead center.

Position one would be bad because it would be like a bowl for water.

Since I only have a 240 it's hard to give you suggestions where to put it.

    Big ones!
Since bass travels everywhere, if it's heavy in one area, you may try adding highs in that area to balance the rest vs. adding another sub.

It looks like I got the last one of these at E-Tronics. I'll post feedback once I get her installed. Should be enough to improve the bass without killing the battery. I don't need to blast the water out of the lake....just enough bass to sound good!

I cannot confirm the model # but this Kenwood sub looks just like the one I installed on our boat. I have been pleased with it. I did not buy the amp/sub combo though. I purchased a 150W X 2 Pioneer amp and bridged it.

If you haven't got one yet, forget about it! If you're in the Atlanta area Circuit City just closed 155 stores. Stick with a reputable dealer who knows marine audio.

That seems to be one of the downsides to a free air installation. When I had one, I found it to be quite variable depending on where you stood, even on a 280. Perhaps you could seal the other side to create a cabinet. This might clean up the sound as well.

I have great access to the area behind the speaker. I think I'm going to stuff old pillows in the area behind it - don't get me wrong. It sounds awesome. I want more.

    OK,

I've narrowed my placement of the second sub down to 3 possible spots. 1 is in the stbd gunwale by the Captain's right knee facing port - awesome sound, but would require me to remove the molded panel with my cup holder and cigar stash.

The second one is in the helm, to the right of the access panel, by the Captain's right knee facing backward and slightly down. Still awesome sound, (I ran a test with the sub inside this panel), but a little too much out of the way. Brings lots of bass forward and stbd, which is good.

The third in in the helm, to the left of the access panel, by the Captain's left knee facing backward and slightly down. Still awesome sound, but definitely in your face (/knees) with bass.

I'm really leaning toward one of the last two. If I could keep my molded panel in the stbd gunwale, I'd go there, but the speaker would be sitting out on the walk-around : ) So, I'd have to fashion a new panel without the cup holder - dedicated solely to the subwoofer.

I have placed the sub inside the panel in the helm, and there is no bad vibration... Ideas?

OK, so three new choices, one test, one selection, and one new panel to replace the old one. The new panel will still be routed to be recessed and have smoother edges.

    350mag B3,
John, looks good. Have you come up with a new cupholder mount yet? There's no real estate on the helm for an easy mounting without fabbing up something. SB

You know, I haven't, but I'm not going to. I never used that cup holder except to hold a leatherman and some chapstick. I always lean my drinks forward against the wood grain on the helm anyway. As for the pocket, I'll miss that some, but I just kept the sunscreen that nobody uses there.

I only use one kind of SS that comes in plastic bottles, and I keep them all neatly lined up, upside down, between the armrests of the two seats at the helm.

Bottom line, I'm not going to miss the cup holder or pocket (it collected dirt anyway).

    350mag B3,
I see your point. Where did you relocate the 6.5 to? I'm guessing there's enough mid's and high's without the 6.5 there since theres one right above your head on the arch, right? SB

Yep. I have two MB Quart Component Car Speakers in the arches, and two Bose outdoor speakers hanging down from the arch facing down and back. I de-commissioned both 6.5" speakers mounted low (where this sub is and behind the fridge facing aft).

Go back two pages for pics of the other sub and the other 6.5.

I am adding the 7th and 8th speakers into the cockpit this week.

    http://www.jr.com/klipsch/pe/KLP_AW525BLK/

These will be mounted from the camper top's support structure. They will be at the very back facing forward and down. I am fabricating 2 tubes so these speakers can be mounted in the rod holders as well (for partying at the beach). The speaker mounts have 2 holes where you can permanently mount screws, then slide the mount down and off. I will leave 2 screws in the camper structure for each speaker and two more in the rod holder sections.

    Now, the cockpit will have:
    Standard Clarion XMD-3
Eclipse 480 watt mono sub amp with 2 JL Audio 10" Marine subwoofers http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com/jlaudiom10ib5-sg-wh.aspx
Eclipse 600 watt 4-channel amp with 2 MB Quart Premium speakers and 2 Klipsch 525 Outdoor speakers
2 Bose Outdoor Speakers hanging from arch (haven't decided on amp) - Currently on Eclipse, but will now power new speakers instead
    Helm remote
Hand Held Key Fob RF Remote for use from beach/bow
    2 sets of ear plugs

By the way, the best part about all of this is finding all of the thin cockpit panels (by vibration). I just found one on the stbd side of the seat which butts up against the Captain's chair. I thought the arch was vibrating. I found the panel when I began taking stuff out from under the seat. That makes about 6 panels that I have re-mounted with insulating weather stripping to stop vibrations.

    WOW!!!! I'm happy. I'm done.

I put the Bose outdoor speakers (hanging from arch) on the original 40 watt amp - good match : (
I put the MB Quart's (arch sides) on the front channels of the Eclipse XA4000 amp : )
I put the (new) Klipsch's (back top of camper) on the back channels of the Eclipse : )
I boosted the bass on the Klipsch's and tried them on the swim platform - awesome : 0
I moved the RF remote receiver to the transom area, above the swim platform shower - It works from 100' behind boat (handheld key fob remote).

All is well. There is sound throughout the cockpit, and available on the beach as well. I haven't mounted the rear speakers up high yet. I'll do that after I'm done re-shaping the camper canvas support structure. I don't want to create a weak spot by drilling for the mounts and then trying to bend the bars for shaping them.

What did you use to cover up the old locker to mount that subwoofer?
