$46-Kicker 10" Marine Subwoofer in Sealed Enclosure

Has anyone hooked up the 300W Bazooka amp yet? I went ahead and bought it, it's sitting in my office at home. Just wondering how its gonna work.....being that I only paid $21 for it, you know?

I have an extra one. I bought a second one to put in my Silverado, but if I replace the factory stereo, I lose the door chimes, etc, etc.

It's yours if you want it. It was going on Craig's list anyway.

BTW, now I also have 2 amps. Which one would run the sub better in the boat....a 600w / 4 ch Rockford, or the Bazooka 300w / mono?

I'll take it! Check private messages. Thanks.

Here are the subs were in the process of putting in the 580. JL12W6's in a JL box. They will be powered by a 1000w JL monoblock amp. Mids and highs will also be JL and powered by two 300W JL amps.

this is the third installation like this I have done and the JL stuff just can't be beat. The quality is untouchable. It's a little pricey but worth every penny.

The box will be hidden under a cockpit seat and we will cut slots in the glass on the front of the seat base so it can vent there. I will post more pics once it is in the hole. We are cutting it out today.

charlg,
i'd be interested in the bazooka amp. is that the one from circuit city as well? how much?

I'm on the fence about which sub to use. If I go with the Rockford, you can have the Bazooka for what I paid for it.

John,
I thought the sub was 150 continuous, 300 peak. do we have to worry about blowing it with the bigger amp?

Maybe I have that wrong. Clean, reasonable power is the key. You certainly could blow it by doubling the power, but you're more likely to blow it with less power turned up to the same level and sending the distortion waaaaayyyyy up the power curve.

So far, in my truck and in my boat, it puts out way too much to turn it up to harmful levels. Let's hope some drunk doesn't get carried away on my boat.

Edit - I do have that wrong - http://www.crutchfield.com/S-xQc9PIF8DSR/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?I=20606SKM10

Not really negative but there is a reason that you can buy a enclosed Sub for 49.00 and from the same company buy one at 400.00. Just because it is inexpensive does not mean it is a good buy. My thought is a 49.00 Sub is better than no Sub at all.

Sound is more difficult to manage in an outdoor environment. One thing I have learned is heavy power and a sub that can translate that power to moving air controled is a key factor. Less expensive subs are low on control and the translation (fidelity).

were you thinking of any one in particular?

BUSTED! For example: After working late Sat night a couple of weeks ago, I stopped by a squadron party on the way home, then went home to an empty house (dance trip for wife and daughter). I had another drink (or two) and listened to my favorite tunes. At about 4 in the morning, I remember thinking that I had not ever before turned the house stereo up to full max while playing my favorite tunes (but I was right then).

Maybe I already had my earplugs in because some drunk was playing the music too loud? It wouldn't surprise me. I sleep with earplugs in every night. I woke up on the couch the next morning. Who knows? Lesson learned - lock the doors so some drunk doesn't come in and turn the music up too loud.

Teekster. I own two of these. They are quite nice. One's in the boat, and one's in the truck.

I can't wait to get my hands on my boat - its still in storage. I was reading the Kicker manual and it talks about mounting the box under the steering wheel and using it as a foot rest. What do you think?

Personaly I think it would be ugly and in the way, mine will be hidden away, probably in the storage area under the helm as long as it sounds good in there.

Yeah - I think I agree - Have you decided where you will mount the amp? I wonder if it would be easier to mount the amp near the battery and run the speaker wire instead of running battery wire to the helm area. I am still thinking about this amp and so I would need 5 pairs of speaker wire.

Ok here are the many reasons why you want the amp near the head unit.

1. Power/Ground wire is alot cheaper then RCA Cables that you will need to run from the head unit to the amp.
2. Your "Wired remote bass level control included" you will want near the head unit or helm so you can control the base volumn so you don't want to have to run that from the helm to the battery either especialy since it probably has a special connector that you'll be required to buy an extention for only from the Manf. and they will want more boat dollars then you want to spend.
3. I am going to bet the battery area is moister and hotter then under a seat or under the helm of your boat.
4. Instead of running a power and ground from your batteries (2 wires, and make sure you put a big fuse/circuit breaker on that power wire near the battery) you will be running 10 speaker wires from the sub and head unit (since all your speaker wires are run there now) also very long rca cables you will need 3 sets and then also a remote turn on wire from the head unit to the amp. so that's 2 wires vs 8 pairs + 1 single.

Each speaker you connect has 2 wires +/- and your boat probably has 4 speakers already front back left right so that's 8 speaker wires and then your sub will (if one sub) have a pair of wires.

Just PLEASE make sure you fuse that power wire I don't wanna hear later how you had a short that causes a fire that caused your boat to expode or something.

I would go with something like this: http://www.monstermarketplace.com/Sports/Landing983a60778.html
