$46-Kicker 10" Marine Subwoofer in Sealed Enclosure

Got #2 today. Ordered 2 minutes apart - received 6 days apart.

Not me I probably won't get to mine till about June or so

That will be the first project when the shrink wrap comes off. Hopefully in March. I'll be open to suggestions on the location and the wiring.

Charlie,
have you picked out a amplifier for your sub?

My future son-in-law gave me a 200 amp / 2ch Rockford amp. I was thinking that I would power only the sub. But honestly, I don't have a clue how to wire it at this point. I will start to study the project as it gets closer. I hope that all of us that bought these subs will share their install tips.

Hook- up:

Run a single, med-small wire from the back of your stereo/amp (blue wire) to your new amp. This tells it to turn on.

Run a 4 guage or large diameter wire from the hot side of your battery to your amp with a fuse in line (red).

Run a grounding wire to your battery's ground side and your amp.

You need a stereo signal. If you have an amp, you can take the line out from that amp to your new amp. If not, you can split the signal from the stereo to the new amp. (Sub out, or filtered with a Cross Over (From Morpheus (Thanks))).

Run speaker wires from the new amp to the new speaker(s).

Tune the amp - follow the directions that came with the amp. It may ask for the power of the incoming signal - this is not life-and-death critical, but it will affect the output/balance of the whole sound. I would use your stereo or current amp (if it has adjustments) to tune down the bass signal to the speakers, then tune the new bass amp to boost that back. That will allow you to turn up the volume without adversely affecting your normal speakers.

Crank and listen.

If your Head Unit (Stereo) doesn't have a seperate Sub Out RCA Jack your gonna want to get a Cross Over to filter out the everything but low frequency to your sub amp.

Thanks for the install tips. I can't wait to get back on the boat and get started.

Can you see that I'm grinning from ear to ear? Can you hear the chuckle in my voice as I type? I've done something to the stereo in almost every vehicle I've owned since 1976, but this is the first one I've done with really good components and the first ever sub-woofer (outside the living room).

I just hooked up my first sub-woofer from these deals in this thread. It's in my 2001 GMC Sierra C3. It would have been in my boat, but it's getting the canvas done right now, so I put the first one in the truck. It really rocks with just the right amount of ooommmf. I have it tuned so I turn the base down to turn the stereo up to save the 4 MB Quart Premium Component speaker pairs (same as the boat).

The sub is powered by a digital, 350 Watt RMS Eclipse XA-1000 single channel amp. The sub is good for 300 watts RMS. The MB Quarts are powered by a 4 channel Eclipse XA-4000 amp which delivers 125 wats RMS to each of the 4 channels.

Next, I need a head unit with Sirius so I can take advantage of that free service, and get cleaner sound to the amps. The CDs sound great, but FM stinks.

I'm still smiling.

John,

Rock On!

Doesn't that just peeve you when after going through the trouble of installing clean power, they send you a crappy signal, full of distortion?

Can't wait to hear about the sub-install on your boat.

Gregg

Extended cab? Did you put it under the rear seat? Is there still enough leg room? I also bought 2, and was thinking of putting the second one in my '07 2500 extended cab.

I set it under the back seat of my extended cab. It fits either front/back or side/side orientation. When I set it in there, I immediately began looking for another one for the other side. After hooking it up, I decided I only need one - really, definately, positively only need one.

I left mine oriented side/side. By shutting the suicide door, and then setting the speaker down (behind passenger seat), it sits firmly against the door and the hump, and elevated about 2" off the floor (simply magical). I'm directing the sound up into the bottom of the rear seat. It doesn't make any difference to have the seat up or down. The interior rocks, yet the exterior doesn't vibrate like some of those "Cars that go Boom" that you see/hear.

An elf can still sit in the rear seat with their feet on the floor. If oriented front/back, it sits flat on the floor with no foot room for any elf. It sounds the same either way. I'm 47 years old and going around telling my friends/co-workers about the stereo in my truck. It's just that good. At low volume, it's a full, rich, solid sound the way it sounded in the studio when they laid the track down. At mid-volume, you feel it in your chest (comfortably) and the sound is like you're at the concert. That Thump/thump/thump sound and feel. Turn the bass down a little to save the MB Quarts and turn the volume way up, and you're the guy with the concert speaker in his ear, head bangin' up and down with a psychotic grin on your face and the feel of a teenager in your heart. I can't believe I waited this long for this quality of sound in my life.

In my boat, it comes close to all of these feelings, and the sub isn't in yet. MB Quarts have really nice woofers for 6.5", and they resonate nicely in the arch, but when the sub is hooked up, it's bound to absolutey rock. The MB Quarts backed up by the Eclipse XA4000 put out sounds that my audio-phile friends describe as "Perfectly Clear," even at unreasonably high volumes. But, in order to crank it with groups like Creed with unreasonable levels of bass in their tracks, you have to tune the bass down. Not anymore!

what free service?

Last Summer, on the way to the island, the previous owner's Sirius contract expired. So, we stopped the boat and called Sirius. They offerred me a lifetime subscription to any 4 receivers for $400. I did a little math, and bought it. I'm going to donate one to my squadron, use one in the boat, use one in my truck (once I get that capability), and one left over for another car or home use or whatever.

Sirus offered me the same thing except the probable is when you trade your car in for a new car there goes your radio and your subscript they don't let you transfer it but 1 or 2 times to a new radio.

If that's true, that's good to know. I'll have to buy the best stuff I can find and keep it forever...oh wait, that's what I do anyway.

I've found that I can live at a much higher standard of living by researching things in great detail, buying the absolute best (usually the highest price, but not always), taking good care of them, and keeping them forever. I'm still upgrading my 7 year old truck like it was new. It looks new, and I'll keep it another 7+ years, but it's not. We had our SR250 for over 10 years. My RX-7 is 23 years old. Our kids are in their late teens (joke, but they are).

Will this run the sub in the truck? A Bazooka 300-Watt Monoblock Amplifier.
