454 mpi shuts down

I have a new to me 1998 40 dancer with 380 horizon power.
i ran it 4 hours home on its maiden voyage without issue. I took a weekend trip this past weekend and on my way home it got about 2 miles out and the starboard engine died.
Tac went to the high peg no ignition buzzer.
Would not turn over. As soon as I touched the emergency start the tach returned to zero and the buzzer sounded. It then turned over,but as soon as I would take it up to speed it would stall ad need the emergency switch to restart. After 5 or so tries I fired up the genny turned on the converter and it ran fine that way all the way home. Trying to decide where to start. Alternator?

Did you have both solonids on or you might have a bad battery on that side.

Thanks, I was thinking possibly a battery as well. I did tax the batteries pretty hard all weekend although the converter was on.
