420DB – Bridge A/C and Heat Installation

Alex,
Is that something you might find at Home Depot or Lowes?

You might need to rethink the brass/bronze manifold...........I think that is entirely too much weight for the plastic pump housing to support on a threaded fitting.

I tried HD as well. To my surprise a guy from the plumbing section told me something I never heard before. I asked for bronze barbs and he showed me some brass stuff that I've seen before. He said it's the same thing, some people call it bronze and some people call it brass. Well, I didn't want to comment and/or waste my time. I would have bought even brass fittings if the were correct size, but unfortunately they don't have them.

Very interesting point, Frank. Do you think the thread might crack from the weight? What you think would be a good workaround? Don't add more weight with bronze barbs and leave the PVC in there? Add some kind of supporting bar to hold the manifold?

I agree.

I would remote mount the manifold on a piece of starboard/wood or other suitable backer and run a small feed line directly from the pump.

That's an idea I haven't thought of, which might work very well.

Good solution. A flexible feed line (double clamped) would also help eliminate vibration.

Yes, this actually be best solution for my application as I have an issue with space. The manifold is long and I have very small clearance between the top of the manifold and the exhaust pipe. Separating manifold from the pump will give me a lot of flexibility and of course address the issue Frank pointed out.

Alex,

I can't believe you didn't contact me to machine a custom, remote mounted manifold......

shame shame......

Dale, a machine custom.......I had no idea you can do that. Next time don't be "hiding"....... the thread has been live and kicking for few months now. Anyway, If you feel that something might need to be reworked or things that I have (e.g. the manifold) might be done better, please let me know.

Alex,

I can machine a manifold and valve system to any configuration, to meet your design requirements. If you like, we can machine the manifold body from solid bronze, machine the internal passages as required, and also incorporate mounting holes, valves, proper nipples, etc.

Doesn't everyone know I have a machine shop in my basement? (Milling machine, lathe, surface grinder, hydraulic press, band saw, complete wood shop, etc. etc.)

I think you should respond to the PM I just sent.....

BTW, this applies to ANY CSR member that I like - if you need parts machined or fabricated, just send me a PM. If you're local, you can come over, and I'll make the parts while you watch. If too far for that, just get me a sketch or drawing, and I can make the parts from that.

If I don't like you, well, then.......

Dale

Don't tell me you're in a "friendly mood" all of a sudden...

Dale,

I'm overwhelmed. PM sent.

alright Marshall, settle down......

Rick, you spelled "friend" wrong...

I was able to find wedged vent (the main large angled vent) and ordered it from MM. When it arrived I only received the top part (just the actual grill). When I asked where's the main (bottom angled) part, MM told me "oh, this thing comes in two pieces". Guess, what? Another $200 and another two weeks. So, I'm still waiting for the parts. While I was ordering this I also decided to order the Euro style 3" round vent and see how it's going to look/work. I'll just need to find a reducer (4" to 3") for my 4" dock to attach to the 3" vent. Once that is done my dock work and grills installation should be done.

The way the weather turned I think the project will be on hold for some time until it gets a little warmer. I don't like working in the 36* days (that was the temp in the salon the last time I went to work on the boat) and don't think that applying sealant will work well in such cold temp. I think I'll just use Jan/Feb to get the rest of the parts (including all other projects) together, then roll up my sleeves and get to work as soon as we get some warmer weather.
