420AC Thread

If anyone is interested: You remove the stairs to the aft deck and the sofa under the salon TV. Then remove the salon floor and you can get to it. Easy, eh?

Hi guys....
Quick question about the silver shower drain screens. I have tried to pry them up and out so that i could clean out the partially blocked drain line of hair, etc. but they dont seem to wanna budge...anyone here had success getting them up?

I have not pried them up but I do poor clorox down them once or twice a year followed pretty quickly by hot water. This seems to do the trick as it is usually shampoo crud build up in the flexible drian pipe more than hair. We wipe the hair up after each shower and have done this since 2007 without any problem. Make sure you run plenty of hot water as the drain goes to the sump and this helps keep the sump pretty clean as well. I'd run at least 10 minutes of hot water after the clorox so you don't create other issues with the flexible line and or the sump tank and pump.

I have tried myself without much success. Would like to know also.

I tried also but didn't want to get to aggressive and damage them. It really looks like they don't come apart. I think if for some reason you had to replace them you would have to cut cut the boat into three pieces to get to both of them. No access whatsoever.

The screen is missing from my aft shower. It was already gone when I took ownership so I don't know how it was done. There is no apparent clasp or screw. Maybe it was ground off. This is what It looks like:

KT... very interesting. At least that pic gives me some perspective on what is below the screen. I think I will go the clorox route as well, but additionally I am going to get a pipe snake and start back at the aft sump and work it down that shower drain hose from the sump ....the key will be finding a flexible snake tool that will fit down that hose.....if I come up with a fix, I'll post. But the pic certainly helped.

A friend of mine gave me a drian cleaning tool that was comprised of a 4' length of 1/4" plastic tubing that was hard but flexible. It's similiar to the 15mm supply lines in the boat but it's only about 1/4" tubing. One end has a shut off vavle and an attachment to hook up a garden hose and the other end has a plug with multiple holes in it. One hole is on the very end and the others are around the perimeter near the end so when you turn it on you get a strong jet of water shooting out of all of the holes. When I slide it up and down the drain lines with the water on full blast you get all sorts of stuff coming out. I wish I could tell you where to get it but I don't know. I do know that it also comes in several different diameters. I'll try to dig it up on the interweb. Mark

Hey guys....
Have you noticed that the a/c unit for the aft statroom, that lives under the salon couch has a condensation hose that drains into the bilge, rather than a sump box?

this summer i have been getting a bit of water in the bilge and after much troibleshooting, i have found that its from the condensation hose. Has anyone tackled rerouting the hose to a sump box?

I noticed that on mine also, the PO had the unit replaced, just thought the installer was lazy. I was going to look into mine this winter. Will let you know how it works out. I am also changing the discharge ductwork, lack of air, the flex is collapsed at each turn. Installing rigid round with flex insulation.

2001 year model goes to the rear sump which is located at the stern of the boat basically below the aft cabin pillows and kicks out the starboard side of the boat. Also the ac unit is located on this model below the sub floor in the rear corner closet and will be a SOB to replace when it's time.

My helm has a switch marked "SPREADER" among the light switches. It doesn't appear in any docs I have. Any one know what it does?

Not certain, but is suspect it's simply a spare. Sea Ray used the same panel for several size boats back then. The Sundancer has spreader (radar arch) lights on some models.

I have a dead genset...can anyone tell me where the generator battery lives for the 420AC....I am going to start there.

Thanks, Jeff

Immediately to port of the genny under a panel. A second panel just aft is for the port engine batteries.

I assume you flipped the by-pass switch and tried starting from the genny panel?

My galley extractor fan is starting to squeal. I suspect it is mounted just above the vent but I can't figure out how to get to it.

Anyone know where it is and how to access it?

In the 2001 model it is located behind a canvas panel which is inside the upper corner cabinet. Not sure on a 96 model what the difference is.

Spot on! Thanks. I had forgotten that vinyl back was there since the admiral loaded it up with goods.
