420AC Thread

son just got home from AirForce for leave nice boat ride and great to spend time with him this is why is all worth it

Anyone know where the air horn compressor is located? Mine is a 2000 420AC Gas model. Horn sounds like a upset duck and I think it has a blockage.

The compressor is behind the cabinet in the galley above the stove. The problem is more likely the horn itself. You will need to remove it from the anchor locker and clean or replace the diaphrams. I got away with just cleaning mine.

I cleaned out the horns, blew them out and re-installed with better results, but still not as good as I'd like. Has anyone tried upgrading the horns in place? I'd prefer not to add a set to the bridge structure but the location could be most of the problem.

Ok mine are mounted on the Starboard side of the fly bridge the hole in the front was patched last year it did have a solid cover on it I thought Sea Ray did it. My friend has 2005 420DB his is up in the front its louder than you think you just can’t hear them from up top

That's where mine are as well, but mine are electrical not air driven. They were changed at one point in the boats life.

Bought my 42 AFT in Maryland and thats where she is used. Love this boat, I always had Carvers, and this Sea Ray if superb in all aspects. I wish that Sea Ray would start making aft cabins again. I would upgrade if so....Have a great winter !

Looking to see if anyone has put a generator shield/cover on their 420 AC (westerbeke 8KW), do not mind using the gen, gets a little noisey when your stuck inside. Also thinking of switching the fridge from 120v to a 12/120v unit, any thooughts? Thanks

Tony

Ours came with the white hard case with sound lining already installed with the boat. Would have thought they all had one. Take a look at the base on the gen set and see if it was there and someone removed the sides and top. If so, it shouldn't be that hard to find one. If not, the gen set would have to be rasied and set in the base plate and would be considerably more work. One of the issues when have found is the rubber snubbers to hold the case sides and top in place dry out and have to be replaced. I put a strap aorund the case which I can tighten to take the pressure off the rubber snubbers and have had no problems since with the case straps snapping.

Even with the sound shield it's nothing like a Honda but then again it makes great white noise for sleeping.

Thanks John, heading down to the Crazy Lady in mid Feb. to do some work while she is dry docked for the winter. I will check it out then.

Our `96 has no sound shield. Not sure there would be enough height to add one. It is noisy ! I plan to change the muffler for a two-stage to quieten down the exterior.

I installed a 3KW inverter and 750AHrs of AGM Lifeline deep cycle to take care of the 110V aboard including fridge and freezer. I looked for a dual source fridge but could not find one I liked which would fit under the counter the same way. Even if I had I would have needed the battery bank to run them! I found an easy way to wire the inverter in after the 220V on the back of the panel.

Hey guys...
Took delivery of my '97 420AC this past weekend....totally excited! A few questions for the experienced 420 owners/

1. What type of mount have you used for installing a flat panel TV in the salon? Looks like about a 32" would be the biggest I could use there.
2. Flat panel TV options in the aft stateroom??? I'm open to all suggestions.
3. Where is the power switch for the vacuum system?...and where does the vacuum bag live?
4. Has anyone found an easy way to tap into AC power up near the map desk (towards the front windows, next to the L shaped dinette couch) I thought that would be a nice place for a small lamp.
5. The double CD changers in the salon...are they both for the salon stereo?..or does one belong to the flybridge stereo system?

Thanks a lot...looking forward to learning and contributing as well.

Jeff

For 3, and maybe 4 (if you are referring to where my cat sits): You will find the central vac behind one of the backrests of that L-shaped dinette couch. The bag is within it of course. It is plugged in to a 110v outlet which you could also use for the lamp you refer to.

See answers below

1. What type of mount have you used for installing a flat panel TV in the salon? Looks like about a 32" would be the biggest I could use there. I put a 32" on the salon wall where the tv was. Had to build a block stand bolted down to the cabinet base and the installed awall mount bracket on the wall panel inside the cabinet so the TV would close flat on the salon wall.
2. Flat panel TV options in the aft stateroom??? I'm open to all suggestions. Mounted flat screen just above the area where the old tv was recessed under the steps. Had a nice wooden door made to cover the old tv area which created a new storage area which was a great space to use.
3. Where is the power switch for the vacuum system?...and where does the vacuum bag live? On mine you rasie the step going down to the galley and the vacume is plug into an outlet behind the w/d.
4. Has anyone found an easy way to tap into AC power up near the map desk (towards the front windows, next to the L shaped dinette couch) I thought that would be a nice place for a small lamp. Remove your microwave oven and add a receptacle by tying into the receptacle the is behind the microwave oven consealed in the cabinet. Cut a floor mount receptacle in the map table like it was going to be a floor mount and plug your lamp in there.
5. The double CD changers in the salon...are they both for the salon stereo?..or does one belong to the flybridge stereo system? One for the bridge and one for the salon and stateroom speakers.

Post pics when you are finished which I need to do myself but not very good with the it stuff.

When I was recently looking to by 4ac, i noticed there were a few on the market with hardtops on the flybridge. Have any of you looled into the hardtop retrofit ? costs ? Where to buy?
