420 DA Thread

BubbaFrsh is correct. It is a brass, slotted "strainer" which is for the Air Conditioner seacock/strainer. Mine looked the same way when we pulled the boat in September. Leave it as is. It's not hurting anything. No need to get a new shiny one with 3 vent slots in it.

Ok. New found mystery item in the boat. Master stateroom AC vent. What the heck is this box for? Has power for something.]
I have something similar it is a IR repeater... There is an eye under the counter that sends the remote signal to the dvd in the cupboard behind the sofa. It is plugged in to an electrical outlet behind panels... Not sure why yours is in the vent though if that's what it is

I believe it goes to the Air Conditioner pump. I broke off one of the "rods" when I was trying to clear a clog
Thanks. I figured it out finally too. The parts manual is X$^!@(*_.
3/4" input bronze and it's a Perko unit, not Gronco.

I don't have any strainers forward of the shafts, are you sure that is a strainer - it's in the area where I have a transducer, could that be a speed transducer that the wheel is knocked off of?
A/C input strainer it turns out after too much XP@)!@W research. Thanks

I already sucked 2) jellyfish into the A/C strainer in 2 weeks. I was pulling the boat anyway to refresh bottom paint and take care of some minor issues so so I figured why not replace? It gets more barnacles inside the unit I was told if I had left it alone so...for $60.00 I bit the bullett.

I always have some water in that little area and I'm not sure where it comes from. I think I will replace mine as well when I pull it for bottom paint.

When it was changed out yesterday, we found hairline cracks in the sealant used and the bottom paint. I also had annoying minor water in the area. Hope this solves it.

Thanks! I ordered every piece in that .pdf from Taylor so I received all new everything but it does not come with hardware. Both sides were only $130. I don't know how to access the attach points of the rear facing arm hold. It looks like a reverse rivet buried internally in the hatch frame. Rather not tear the entire hatch out to find that I will then be well outside my wheelhouse of repair.

How did your repair go? I have same project in my future.

@importmonkey - Could it be the fluxgate for your autopilot? Although it looks a little to haphazard to be that.
In my '03 420DA the fluxgate compass was mounted behind the glove box at the helm. I know this because in the process of troubleshooting the magnetic switch on the cockpit door (the one that, when working properly, prevents the hatch lift from engaging when the cockpit door is closed, thus preventing the sad sound of fiberglass cracking) I tossed the old magnet in the glove box, and spent two months troubleshooting the Raymarine Autopilot because it would not hold course. SR failed to install the "warning compass area" sticker on the inside of the glove box at the factory. Frank W told me to start looking for ferrous metals in the glove box, and voila, problem solved. I found the sticker in the owners' manuals and installed it out of courtesy to her next owner.
I love boats.

Yeah. Mine is also behind the glove box.

Just finished last weekend. So decided after examining the hatch install that it was sound enough to where I would never get it as good, I took a chance and drilled out the reverse rivets for each arm. They had to go anyway. That left me with same dilemma-how do I access and "mount" a pivot point. Went to Home D and bought too many different width screws from "1/4-1" long and used a 3/4" to screw into the hole and arm that was there ex rivet. It is long enough that it mounts fine and it was tight enough that it made a very good pivot point. If I ever need to replace or change due to wear I can always either unscrew it and if needed elongate the hole. It works perfect now and this saved a TON of time. I don't think I took a breath for 15 mins. when I drilled the first rivet out. :)

Found the area seam around it was cracked as well. For $60 I figured why not.

Well that's not supposed to be there …. Wonder where it goes... Access to that areas sucks !

Rob

What the heck is it?

There is an access panel inside the port side closet that's right there. Can't wait to get back and open it up to see what it is. Thought someone would know.

Guys ,
Check ur ac condensate pans ... My Salon ac drain clogged in the shower sump. The salon ac filled up and overflowed. Water filled a cavity I wasn't even aware existed under the aft closet . That overflowed into the floor storage area in the aft almost filling it to the top.... Took me a bit to figure out where the water had come from as I just filled the water tank .... None of these areas are checked regularly and they don't drain to a bilge pump... HOW FING STUPID !!!!!!!

It could have been a lot worse if I didn't catch it in time .. so now I check it weekly.

Any why the F would anyone have a drain below the water line of a sump box... how damn stupid are u .....

Rob
Where are these located? "Check ur ac condensate pans "

They changed the TV location from my year to yours so might be different. My IR receiver "eye" is under the counter top above the freezer. The wire runs over to the repeater that is in behind the corner cabinet that houses the DVD player. I just replaced the DVD player and had to remove the access panel in the back of that cabinet to get to the plug for the DVD. That's where I saw the little box like yours, wire tied just under the vent from the master. That little cigarette pack sized box has a wire coming from the eye, a wire to the eye on the DVD player and power cord going to the 110v receptacle that it shares with the DVD player.
