420 DA Thread

@hynespa

No….. this one

I had to modify the mounting board. If you are original Searay cut holes for the feet so it sits lower. The galanz I took the front feet off and cut the board for the rear so the stamped in feet fit in so it sits on its chassis

Walmart is the only retailer. First time I ordered it was back ordered a couple days later I ordered it again and shipped same day. So that’s a bit flaky. Called Galanz and they didn’t recognize the model number….. bit of a gong show but works great

Captsteve (and anyone else)….I’m trying to run an LED strip light to finally light up dash at night as the old aluminum foil strip lighting is dead. However, I have two issues I need guidance on:
1. When I looked carefully behind my wired dash panel and peeled off the old aluminum foil strip light I found it wired into an unopenable black box behind a blank labeled “radar” NOT simply into the dimmer toggle as you noted in your previous post. See pic with blue and yellow wires going in and single gray coming out of little black box to old strip light…..now what?

2. Should I be buying LED strip light white or blue? I want to see blue but can’t tell if it’s the lights or the plastic that determines the final color effect on the panel at night.

I don't recall having that box when I upgraded my back light, but can tell you that I don't have it now. I will say.... that when I turn on my nav lights now, the LED strip light that I installed lights up to its brightest setting and I have to hit the dimmer button to bring in down to the desired setting. That box may have something to do with the keeping the brightness at its last setting.

The light source you use will be the color that shows through the panel.

While you’re at it, maybe do what I did and update your switch covers. It really did a lot for my helms appearance.

My apologies if this post is in the wrong section, I did post in General too.. with no response.
I realise this is a difficult question to answer specifically, as there are many parameters involved... but, I have a 1990 sundancer 420da with 2x caterpillar 3208T engines.
The boat will reach 21-22 knots at approximately 2,300-2,400 revs.
Can anyone give me an idea of the fuel consumption at this speed and also lower speeds/revs if anyone has ever taken notice (unlike me.. Just fill it up when I need to)

I have leaking water from my 420 sundancer 2004 hard top windshield brackets. They are the two stainless brackets that have thru the hardtop stainless plates with bolts. My plan is to remove the bolts and plates then clean it up and re-bed the bolts with 3M fast cure 4000 UV. I assume it will go OK. My fear is that I remove the bolts and the top slightly shifts and then I cant get the bracket and holes in the hardtop aligned. Thoughts?

I doubt the hardtop will shift. Most of the mass is supported at the rear of the hardtop, where it’s through bolted to the deck. Assuming it’s performed in calm water, do one plate at a time.

Thanks for the reply CaptSteve. I didnt do it today since it rained. I put plastic over it and taped the edges a week ago to see if its still leaking. I think its not leaking anymore but probably should have been on the boat during the rain to be sure. I'll wait for a clear day and get it done. thanks.

Do you mean this?

Let us know how it goes. I've got one that leaks also. It looks like it'll take two torx bits, one to hold the inside. Mine are filled with caulk, don't know if that was from factory or not. Started digging the caulk out once, didn't have the right tools and that's as far as I got.

Does anyone here have experience with installing USB outlets???? Specifically, Vimar brand that is the standard receptacles on these boats? I want to install them to get rid of the multiple USB "plug in" adaptors we currently use.

Also, I installed the LED dash strip lights. I did end up connecting them to the blue and yellow wire pair and they light the dash beautifully except they are too bright. Something tells me that little black box that I cut out from the old aluminum foil dash light was some sort of voltage regulator or dimmer somehow related to the dimmer toggle on the dash panel? Anyone have a thought?

I installed Marinco dual USB charger ports in the following locations.... Forward cabin - under TV, swapped the factory 12-volt cigarette lighter outlet in the vertical galley cabinet to the left of the sink with a Marinco unit and installed one to the starboard side of the helm seat which services the cockpit seating area with two 6' iphone lightning cords.
There's also a 12-volt cigarette lighter outlet under the helm next to where the VHF handset wire connects, which I just use a plug in dual USB adapter for my phone because it also has a light on it that lights up the helm floor. Sorry, no photo of the forward cabin outlet installed.

See My June 12th reply to your original post on this topic.....

To go off topic one more time. Having issues with autopilot tracking properly. Seems like it may be some type of interference regarding the fluxgate compass.
Does anyone know the location of the compass on a 2005 420 DA?
Checked the compartments under the salon floor. No luck.
Thanks and regards,
Matt
