420 DA Thread

Regarding Villain's issue, isn't the boat set up for NMEA 0183 not NMEA 2000 to begin with? Will that null the pursuit of the solution using VV&7 technology? Just wondering.....
It won't. The VV7 is a Smartcraft device that plugs into the port and starboard Smartcraft J-boxes. The VV7 has a NMEA 2000 port which makes all of the Smartcraft data available on a NMEA 2000 network should you have one. And, by the way, any other NMEA 2000 devices on the network can be seen on the VV7 if connected. Here is an example (a and b are the Smartcraft J-boxes):

As an addemdum, I'll give you an example -
On my Smartcraft network as earlier stated by installing a VV7 I lost the generator data. So I converted my generator's data to NMEA 2000 using a Maretron converter and put it on my NMEA 2000 network which is connected to my VV7. I now get my generator's data on the VV7.

I can tell you for sure the VV403 you will lose the ability to use the gauges as well as the generator. I was one of the first customers to get the VV403 that also had the gauges and Corey from Seaboard and I went back and forth for days (including on the 4th of July) with no luck. In the end I just used two 4" NMEA2000 displays and went all digital.

I just had the pleasure of being intimate with my duck bills... it was only a threesome as I found the problem on the easy side.... someone is sneaking poops I discovered. God I hate plumbing.

Any way I measured them to replace and they were 1-1/2 at the flange 1-1/4 OD in the tube

So, a man with one watch knows what time it is. A man with two watches has no idea. So your duckbills were 1.5"? Swaterhouse said 2". I'm not trying to start a fight here, but whenever I have to do this job I want to get in and get it done by having the parts on hand.

The gag factor is a game changer ..... for sure they are not 2”

Hello! Potential new owner here, getting ready to send a 2004 420DA to survey on LOTO. I'm going to go back and attempt to read through this thread this evening, but can anyone fill me in on the gotcha's I should be on the look out for? Both me and the wife grew up with boats, and we've owned a bunch ourselves but this will be our first large cruiser! I'm sure I'll have a ton to learn. Boat is a gasser, diesel just wasn't in the budget...

@Jason_Peters - Does the boat have a Kohler generator? That has been my most expensive gotcha since I purchased my boat which is the same model year and also has gas engines… The Kohler generators in those boats tend to be unreliable...So make sure you have it checked out very carefully…

if you end up buying this boat you’ll find out this forum will be an invaluable resource that will definitely save you money and time and headaches in the long run. Good luck!

If you have the "J" pump, then those quackers are 2 inches.....guaranteed.

I have the 42HTS system and the duckbills are 1-1/2".... best check your model and parts list

Yes, indeed check your model. Mine was "JW". BTW the duck bill valve part # information is printed right on the pump label just above the "JW" (on my boat)..........."J pump", "W motor"
