What did you have to do for a backing plate ?
I see you have risers...do you run with the outboard up?

    Very cool - congratulations!
Regarding the Navigator - My 52 had one E120 and one Navigator. I ditched the Navigator and replaced with another E120. I have since replaced everything and now have Garmin 8616's. The SR Navigator has a separate depth transducer that is NMEA 0183 and as such can be integrated into the Raymarine E120 MFD's. My boat also had a fish finder which used the DSM 300 sounder. The DSM 300 is integrated into the Raymarine equipment using Seatalkhs which is essentially an Ethernet network. There is specific cabling required to connect a sounder to the DSM 300. To use a DSM 300 you will need a Seatalkhs switch in which that switch connects both the E120's and DSM 300 so the entire system is fully integrated.

Thinking about adding a Garmin chart plotter to the helm. I have the typical helm: 2 tachs, 2 multi-gauges, Engine Synch gauge, Sea Ray "Navigator" GPS (which is basically dead), and the tri-data guage (speed, depth, temperature).

I'm going to remove the GPS and Tri-data to make room for the new Garmin. My question is whether to go with a 10 inch ($2,800) or splurge for the 12 inch ($4,000). Admittedly, I'm trying to value engineer this a bit, but is there really that much difference from the 10" to 12"?

I may have gone a little overboard, but I went with 2- 12” screens and one 9” (9” is dedicated to my FLIR camera)

Yes there is a big difference in screen area. You will see the biggest differences in your radar and sonar imagery. This is an area where you stretch the budget because you will probably never replace again and one of those things that you will say " man I wish I would've....". I went from 12's to 16's for the same reason....

That's really nice! Question for you.....I'm guessing that you had the Tri-data instrument (speed, depth, water temp) which got eliminated. Did you "reuse" the thru-hull for the depth transducer? Or did you install new?

Can I also assume you put in new radar, and new auto-pilot?

I was afraid the answer would be like that. I'll put the link up to my go fund me page later today! Thanks for the feedback.

This boat did not come with the Tri-data gauge, it had the Sea Ray Navigator and the Raymarine RL80 radar.
I actually installed 2 new transducers just for redundancy, new radar (open Furuno NXT array), new Furuno autopilot, as well as Vesper AIS transceiver, and FLIR camera.... like I said I may have gone overboard. ;)

@Blueone - I believe there is a backing plate but since it was installed by the PO I am not exactly sure what it looks like. At some point when I am down in the engine area I will take a picture.

I put the engine up and add ratchet straps before I run in open seas (or leave the dingy behind in the slip).

Sh*t Rob. Come to think of it that was the P/N I gave to the mechanic and yet my invoice had the other number on it. Now I'm confused....

Question for the group: I am starting to think about replacing the Strata-Glass between the windshield and the hardtop on my 2004 420. Bought in 2016, not sure how old the glass is, but it is starting to "crazy crack" and in sunlight at some angles is getting hard to see through.

What should I expect this project to run, ballpark? Mine is a 5 part syste, just like the picture of villian style above! Do they reuse the canvas pieces and zippers and snaps and just replace the glass? Or is a complete new "construction"?

    Thanks,

    Jaybeaux

I went with a very high quality canvas guy and polycarbonate...everything new. $500/panel, 5 panels

I just brought it home this past Sunday to wash and clean. It's so fancy it gets a spot beside me in the living room at the Michigan condo. I don't think that would be the case at home where my wife is :)

Look seriously at polycarbonate .....clarity is worth every penny

The compartment aft of the sump box compartment in the floor....does anyone get water in there ever? I've dried the compartment thoroughly only to find water a week later. This is NOT sump box overflow and all other floor compartments are always bone dry. Any thoughts?

The only things forward of that is the plumbing for the shower and condensation drain for the forward AC...Have you checked the AC pan?....sometimes the drain line gets plugged and it will over flow. Put down some paper towels before the sump box to see if the water is coming from that direction

I second going with the Polycarbonate! It’s actually clearer then the windshield! I think for all new material and snaps cost me about $3000.
