420/44 DB Owners Club

My original fit Norcold DE-0061 fridge/freezer finally gave up the ghost this week and I’m now on the hunt for a replacement.

I’d really appreciate any advice, recommendations or experiences, good or bad, that you can share ...

An few years ago we replaced ours with a 9 cuft NovaKool. Love the extra storage and freezer on the bottom. Worth a look.

Any mods needed? Looks identical in size.

Needed to trim just a little off the bottom ledge, painted the wood black, and filed a little off part of the right opening to get the new fridge in. The space is larger than it looks from the outside.

Thanks!

I installed a NovaKool in the cockpit last summer and love it. Would to the same in the galley when the time comes. The only pain is they build them to order and takes a while....

I am in the process of purchasing an 07 44 Sedan Bridge. Can anyone tell me what transducer is used in the center bilge near the forward bulk head? This boat has E120 Raymarine MFD's and the depth is not accurate and I would like to replace the transducer during haul out for survey and some other work to be done at that time.
Anyone know a surveyor in the New Smyrna Beach area?

Thanks

Yes it is flashing and reading the wrong depth when it does work. I need to run this boat 300 miles to get it home and was going to just replace the transducer in hopes it would help.
Does yours have the type that can be removed and a plug installed?

Thanks for the response.

Replaced the bridge table with one from Marine Teak. I repurposed the base and hydraulic post from the cockpit table (we removed for space reasons) so we could lower it to coffee table height for entertaining. Much easier to get to the aft curtain to zip/unzip. Beautiful quality, very impressed with the finish.

Chasing down a problem with the forward AC unit (no heat) and noticed that the entire area is sealed with insulation/aluminum tape with the only means of new air coming in is thru a hole in the floor where the water/drain lines enter from the thruster compartment. Surely this can't be correct! would seem the top aft portion of the compartment should open to the space under the mattress and above the drawers for air flow. Wondering what the setup is in your boat for air reaching this compartment?

Was wondering the same. Mine is similar but heat and ac works.

Bought the same table but going to use it in the cockpit. Moved the oval table to the bridge. I decided to varnish the table because I had one for our 320 and though it was sealed it would still get stained by oils.

There should be slots cut in the bed frame just above the top step on each side. Some one may have taped off thinking they would modify the circulation due to the orientation of the register. If the A/C cools but doesn't heat, the reversing valve is possibly stuck. I have the same issue currently with my salon unit but tapping on the valve has not fixed my problem. I haven't been too worried about it as we use a small space heater in the salon as the forced air is noisey.

I'm aware of the slots you mentioned, but on mine that slot is sealed shut inside the AC compartment. It makes sense to me to open it up at this point (top aft portion inside the compartment). Just wondering how others are constructed.

As for the heat, mine is the same - tapping has not worked. Likewise we picked up a small space heater for the few nights we might need it. Would still like to know specifically what is wrong. Plan to contact Crusair and see if they have diagnostic steps.

Do you get water flow and does the compressor kick in at all? Do you at least get cooling? I had a similar no heat situation this spring and turned out to be a fried triac switch in the control box.

+1 on the slots above the top step on each side.

Yes, good water flow, hear the click of the solenoid kick in, then the reversing valve solenoid, compressor starts ... just no heat!

Whats the current water temp? Averages for the area show around 50F. Also not sure what system you have. Just another factor that impacts heat output.

Take note though… while Crusair Air Conditioners are among the best (if not the best) cooling AC systems for boats, reverse cycle heating will only work at full capacity in waters as cold as 50°F – 55°F.

Once you get below 40°F, your unit’s heating will be running at 50% capacity.

The aft AC/Heat works so well that it gets too hot in the salon so I figure that the water temp is not the issue (in this case).

Was curious what people have changed the light under the bridge to? The two chrome ringed lights under the bridge overhang. Was looking for LED white and possibly blue.
