Does anybody use the NBOA insurance advertised on the right of this screen. Do they underwrite the insurance themselves or are they a broker?

Thanks!

It’s a long shot, but do you have a photo or diagram showing the bladder type and set up? Thx

Here it is. 2-gallon instead of one. Really smoothed everything out....

There is a Reject valve (at least on mine) that switches between the tank and overboard. The system starts up then pressure is increased to 600 PSIG and water is forced through the membrane and dumped overboard. There is a test tap and once the water tests good the Reject valve is switched to the Tank position.
On Bruce Sea's system I can see the pressure regulator, flowmeter, and testing instrument but not the valve to switch between overboard and tank.

The system does not have a Reject valve...not sure if the system bypasses until the TDS says it is good or what. Good question!!

I'll ask SWP

I would think that anywhere in the pressurized part of the system, a bladder would buffer out the spikes in the pressure pump cycle. It makes placement easier as it can be anywhere. Closer to the manifold might make sense as it is in a pretty much central point in the system.

Those are my thoughts...

Cheers!
Tip - When we are on long trips and the watermaker is used extensively I add a tablespoon of salt to the water tank. This brings the electrical conductivity up and reduces corrosion. RO water is so pure it is bad for water systems and to drink for that matter. My watermaker initially produced water at 50 PPM or less which concerned me but now, years later, we are at about 400 PPM which is less of a concern.

Good to know! I will watch the TDS. My understanding is bottled water is about 150 to 200 PPM on the TDS scale.

I do not need to run the watermaker right now (I know, why did I not wait till the last minute to get it installed...) so I am going to back flush it and it will sit until spring/summer.

Do you know about pickling it? If it's going to sit unused for months at a time it should be picked so the membranes aren't compromised.

I will look at the instructions on pickling...Thanks!

Question on the accumulator tank mounting, is it solidly clamped to the bulkhead?

Every time I see one on a house water heater, they are supported solely by the nipple on a tee off of the copper.

I would think they would get torn off in an earthquake. On a boat, I wouldn't want that mass being moved around in rough seas.

When I added one to my house, I used big band clamps to secure it to a block of wood on a stud.

I used them in the past. The policy I had was underwriting by another company. I believe they are just an agency.

Thanks, that is what I thought. I have Travellers and am getting quotes from Chubb again this year. They were almost the same price as Travellers but then they asked the horsepower...the quote went up by 50%. I guess they figure we are speed demons. "Speed kills" say the insurance companies....

Is there a reason you went for the 2 gallon accumulator?

My local chandlery are pushing me toward a much smaller Jabsco accumulator. And, surprise surprise, it’s not cheap …

You'll get longer runtimes before the pump kicks in with the larger tank. I know I can run my faucets for a good 45 seconds before the pump kicks in. Really gets rid of the annoying pump noise every time you crack a faucet.

Thanks for the photos. Do you remember where you bought it? Is it a marine application accumulator or general purpose.

Yes, it was screwed down. It is a general purpose accumulator. It is in a clean and stable environment and never an issue. Talked to the owner of the boat last week and it is still functioning well after 5 years. Amazon purchase.

I have the small Jabsco on our current 420DA and it does well, but the pump kicks on immediately when a faucet is opened.

That’s a great advantage. But does the pump then have to top up the accumulator pressure again?

Copy. Do you remember if the pump runs on to pressurise the tank after the faucet is closed? And visa versa with the Jabsco tank. In other words pump runs for the same time but is delayed 45 seconds. Just wondering if it’s all relative.

I do not remember. What I do remember is some of the shower or spigots pulsating and it was like the pump did not know whether to shut off or run....once the accumulator was installed, it was just like the house. The small Jabsco I currently have...not sure if it works or not. The pump comes on and runs when you turn on a spigot or shower and shuts off when you shut the water off. Good solid pressure all the time. When we bought the boat, I had to add air to the unit and not sure if it is still pressurized or not. However, if it ain't broke.....

I don’t think mine runs longer after installing the accumulator. I want to say run times are the same but frequency is much less.

ttmott, I dug into the pickling for this unit. It should draw out of a bucket with 4 gallons of water mixed with sodium metabisulfite. The output, or product should not go into the water tank. So...I am replumbing the inlet and outlet so I can do this. It should have been in the initial install.

All of the plumbing mods are right out in the open so I do not have to pretzel myself into an area that you can see, but not get to!

Thanks for the tip off!

don't forget to post pictures of the redo on plumbing!
Thanks
