Back at troubleshooting my water in the bilge issue. Took a run today and half way through the ride I’m seeing the rear bilge alarm. It was bone dry when we left the dock. It was a bit rough and much boat traffic so I couldn’t get down there to witness it. From what I can see it’s not running from anywhere forward. wherever it’s coming from is in the aft bilge area. What’s back there is thruster, zinc bolts and through hulls. Also wondering if it could be one of my check valves on the bilge pump allowing water back in. As I’m typing this I’m thinking of going outside the boat to pour some water into the outlet to see if it runs back into the bilge.

Try this, I took a cruise last week with my engine room hatch open to monitor some repairs and along the way I figured out where my water is coming from. Open your engine room hatch in cockpit and in the rear 2 corners you will see two water drains, well when cruising and NOT up on plane the water splashes against the seam where the upper and lower halves of the boat connect near rear on sides of the boat and the ports for the hatch drains is right there and water is getting punched back into those drain ports and up the hose and was coming out the 2 drains at the hatch.

During my dry bilge campaign I installed some check valve’s in these drains and replaced the rudder seals and now no more salt water in the bilge. Just getting fresh water now so the hunt continues

I think I’ve nailed it. Poured some water into the bilge drain on the exterior port side and the water came out of the aft pump. I have 2 check valves on order. Btw I did add check valves to the drains in the cockpit hatch after finding wet carpet a few seasons ago.

@AEO @Irie308 can either of you post a link to what check valves you bought?

Did you use this style on the hatch drain as well?

Yes those are the ones I added to the hatch. Also assume it’s used throughout all the bilge lines on the boat.

Very interesting mod. Did you have to do any fiberglass work to fill the gap on the STBD side and how did you manage the door line up on the PORT side?

And the shower sump discharge. Don't recall 100%, but most likely washer/dryer discharge as well.

Been getting tired of draining the Port battery bank. Added two more batteries for a total of 5 on that bank. Pretty easy to do.

Mine's a bit older boat but it doesn't exist on mine. Looks like someone added it. Can you decipher the writing beside it? Might just have to trace the wiring to figure it out.

A quick video while underway to support my hypothesis. Did not understand how low the ass end really squats underway.

I like the idea, but functionality wise it seems great while anchored out. But, there's a huge gap in terms of safety while cruising. Not to mention if you have small kids, that becomes an issue even at anchor. Obviously, your situation must be unique, where the things that concern me don't apply to you. Just guessing...

Cool mod, but no doors would be a no go for me. I'm all about safety of my crew. And the seas I've been in, this would never ever work.

Holly crap.....5 batteries just on the port side? Are you planning to anchor for a week without running the genny........LOL?

I added 1 extra (total of 3 on the port side) and never had a problem in the last 7-9 years.....and I "live" on the hook.

Oh yeah, she squats pretty good. All exhaust ports underwater.

I have to find a pic when I was coming back from Nassau with beam seas higher than my rubrails...with splash going to top of salon windows....o_O...........we were heading back trying to beat a NEster that would stir the gulf pretty bad.
