That sounds pretty normal...maybe a bit long, but not much.

Do they then stay green and the bowls hold water?
Bowls are definitely holding water and except the other day when I wrote about the red lights they’ve been green.

On my 2005 does anyone know where the air compressor and tank for horns are located? I’ve searched all over the aft area around generator area but can’t find it. My horns are weak sounding and I want to check if compressor and tank are ok. thanks

never mind, I found it under the master bed by the ac. Just a compressor.
Anyone know how to check if it’s putting out normal air or need replacement? If replacing, what compressor is everyone using now a days as I think this is original one?

On my 390my it was spider webs in the horn it’s self, cleaned them out and was good to go.

Mine had a pressure gage and it wouldn’t build any pressure.I used a kalhenberg p569-01a. The compressor comes with pressure switch and gage. $280.00

Ok so sounds like I need to take the horns off and check for bugs or obstructions and go from there. Thanks.

Mine has no pressure gauge or tank. Just a compressor. Going to make sure the horns are clean and clear then if need be will check into compressor. thank you!

last night I was checking my nav lights along with other lighting. Starboard light is out. Has anyone changed over to LED from the original Perko lights? Or using led bulbs in place of the incandescents? If so let me know what.
I see Perko made the exact same housing in LED which would be nice to have the same footprint and screw holes. Also Hella has some that are close in size.

It should be mounted under the swim platform to starboard. You need to crawl around the back of the genny from port and crawl over the rudder actuators. When you switch on the starboard batteries you should hear the compressor turn on and run for a bit if its a compressor issue. If they sound weak it may be that they are not the airhorns but rather electric horns. If the horns are mounted to the radar arch, remove the access panel in the center of the arch and see if you have black 1/4 inch plastic hose running to an electric air valve. IF not and you just see wires going the the base of the horns they are not air horns.
Carpe Diem

I found the compressor under the master stateroom bed next to the air conditioner. It has no air tank, at least in that area.

I’ve disassembled and cleaned the horns. Put hose clamps to make sure no air leaking since they were slightly loose going on the trumpets. Still weak. Thinking about replacing the compressor. What do you all think?

Your question got me looking for mine as well. I think I like you, have the electronic version. Mine is weak as well. I think it’s that way by design. When we first got the boat I notice the previous owners disconnected one of the tubes to one of the horn which provided more air to the remaining one. I may go back to that method for now but you can try that as a test to see if the single horn is louder that both combined as mine was. It’s low on my list of upgrades.

Sounds like you have to Old European style automotive air horns. If you want loud horns you need to invest in the Kahlenburg horn system for a good boat buck. If you replace with electric horns you may need to invest in the time to run an adequate conductor as the wiring that you have may be too small for the load.

Remove the inspection plate in the top of the arch as was pictured in a previous post. You may have a solenoid there with the air line running into it and coming out. Mine went bad once. Horns sounded awful. They did not get a full blast of air. Is your compressor small-about the size of a large can of tomatoes? The boat we have now has a small compressor that size and horns do not blow. I have a new one to install, but have not gotten around to it yet...

I can’t imagine an air line from a compressor in the master state room running to radar arch and back to horns in the bow. The compressor is about size of can of tomatoes.
when I had the horns in the garage to take apart snd clean, after re assembling I blew in them with my shop compressor and the horns were loud.
Sounds like I’ll be buying a compressor and tank. Thanks

This is likely your compressor. My mistake I was thinking you had horns on top of the arch.

That’s what it looks like. The horns are starboard anchor locker area.

any idea if that is correct compressor will they have reasonable loudness or I just need to bight the bullet on a tank and compressor combo?

Following this thread as my horn blasts are subpar. When I depress the horn switch the first time I get a decent blast, the quick, follow up depression of the switch may or may not produce a sound.
