420/44 DB Owners Club

I have two of those fans in the guest stateroom and one in the master stateroom. Awesome little fans...
Would love to see where you mounted this.

Interference to props is definitely a big concern for me. I also have thought about putting it slightly aft of the engine water intake and a little offset. Need to check the space for that.
Where are your two located on the boat?

Located them in the center bilge by the forward bulk head. Just enough space between the forward bilge pump which hadn’t been reinstalled when this photo was taken.

Ok. Did you just glue it down or?
I love not having to get carpet out of the way to open the hatches!
The area over the hatches is 5 lift out panels approx 13" x 60". it's probably more work than carpet to access the hatches but, I only open those hatches one or twice a year! I due most repairs & maint. thru the cockpit hatch.

Nicely done! I guess you did not have the plain digital depth transducer up there. Mine has it installed center keel right there.

Ok, so just laying there like a regular floating floor then? I would have thought you'd have glued down with cuts made to match the hatch outline so you could just lift the hatch and wood flooring as one unit. And my intentions are to rarely need to open the hatches, but when needed it would be so nice to just grab a hatch latch and pull it all up as one unit.
did you also do some sort of underlayment under the bamboo, like thin cork or otherwise?
Thanks

Is anyone on or near their boat that could post a photo of their 3-port Reverso oil change pump?
I am thinking of teeing off one of the ports & adding another valve with a hose to suck the oil out of the tranny dipstick holes when I get back to the boat. Wondering how much room I have to work with!
Thanks,
Steve

hope this help.

Hi Brian, adding fans to our staterooms is on the project list for this spring. Do you have yours permanently mounted? if so, where? not that there are many choices ...

Here are a few photos showing the locations. I pulled power from the valence lights. The valence wall switch acts as a master for both the valence lights and the fans.

Only pic I have showing the starboard side. Next pic after shows the location of the mount...

They fold flat against the wall under the bulkhead to get out of the way, and provide good airflow to both berths when being used.

I really wished that room had some source of fresh air when at anchor so the door can be closed. Replacing the port light with one that opens would help. I have also been thinking about an inverter to run the air conditioner in fan mode to provide some recirculation, but not a very elegant solution.

Open to ideas!

Never thought of running in fan mode via an inverter. That's not a terrible idea. As you know the airflow in the 42/44 sux overall. Our model doesn't even have a port window in the guest stateroom. The 04 doesn't have the switches mounted similar to your model.

Does it have the valence lights in the same locations with hardwired power to them? I did a short fish on the port side from the hole for the valence light to a new hole for the fan power...

I was looking at the possibility of removing the sky light and mounting a fan in the hole like an exhaust fan. I can hear you thinking “no”

That is helpful Brian. Did you put one in the master suite a well? I was thinking on the guest head wall over the port storage locker ...

As for more air, I thought that after 2004 Sea Ray added a port hole in the guest suite, where the storage shelf is? not sure where I got that idea from but I did contact Sea Ray recently about adding a port hole at that location - they sent me the drawings and the part number for the port hole. While I will not get it put in this spring it is on my list to do next year - I'll get all the parts and make up the template over the winter (really want to get it right the first time!). I can post if anyone is interested.

We have an inverter ... might try the fan idea and see how much power it draws. I don't think they are very energy efficient though.

P.S. those are nice Bermuda pj's you have :)

edit: Missed the nuance that you do have a port light but sealed. The P/N provided by Sea Ray is Bomar S516-6-SS When I looked, I believe this one opens.

No underlayment, Galley floor pretty much free floating, Dinette siliconed to fiberglass & bolted with table like stock floor, step siliconed in place. Salon other than hatch pcs. stuck to fiberglass with 2 sided foam tape. All 3/4" Bamboo plywood with joints splined with 1/8" aluminum. Hatch pcs splined side to side other than center pc. all tuck under threshold at slider. If you try to attach to floor hatches the will not open as far as I believe the are stopped when they contact the couches and the joints wont be as tight.

The port windows were kind of weird. First off, they did not open. Our ‘07 had it and they must have started putting them in in ‘07 because I have seen some without it. We always wished it opened...but did not...

Yes, I put one on the port side over the TV, beside the CO detector. I will see if I can find a picture. I may add one in a similar location on the starboard side.

Those are my daughter's PJs!

I have the 07 which has the port light but doesn’t open.wish it did
Same here...port light that is fixed. I think I read somewhere that someone swapped it for one that opens.

ok thanks for the info. Gives a better picture. Really looks nice!

I'm one of those that did. The fixed option was no longer available from Bomar and we wanted some ventilation anyway. It's straight forward. We actually did it while in the water.

Once back in the water, let me know about that current draw.

Regarding the opening portlight, I am thinking about doing this. Does anyone know if there are specs or compliance concerns related to rating or similar?

Other than rating, anyone have any opinion on practical concerns in rough water and the integrity of an opening portlight at the height above the waterline it is located?
