I just looked at the 420 docked across from me and I can’t tell through the big frosted lenses what size the bulbs are. But if they are g4 like mine, several multicolor options at Marinebeam

If memory serves me, there are 2-G4s in there. The trim rings are a pain to remove. Be careful with them. Those lights are made by Imtra and cost about $160/each.....

I don’t have the 44 yet, waiting on spring time to sea trail. But I replaced every bulb on my 390my with led and it’s a very good upgrade. Plan on doing the 44 as soon as I get it.

I just completed my major engine maintenance now the cosmetic projects.
I just replaced fuel-oil coolers, replaced after coolers, serviced heat exchangers, replaced all raw water intake hoses, impellers, changed all fluids and filters including antifreeze. Last thing was the belts. Now a cold beer.

You have been a busy bee! Sounds like a spa treatment is in order.

It's been a while since I took one apart. But, I thought there were much larger than G4s inside the boat. I'll assume that Dean's link is for the right ones, since we have same boats. I'll take mine out just to double check.

I replaced my inside lighting with 6K......these things are bright! What a difference to the original bulbs.

I have the tri-color on the bridge and like them a lot. I mostly use red when cruising at night, if I need some extra light and not to ruin the vision. But, didn't think I'll need reds in the cockpit. Now that you mentioned, I recall few times where I could use red light in the cockpit, during night cruising, to add some light for safely moving up/down and in the cockpit, also without interfering with night vision.

Alex, have used these over the past few years and they have been pretty solid. They are red, white and blue in that order. https://store.marinebeam.com/red-white-blue-switchable-led-side-mount-g4-bulb/

Thanks Dean.

I made offer and was accepted on a 2005 420 with 430hp 8.3's. Hopefully this coming Friday will get hull and engines surveyed.
For anyone with this model can someone tell me what the freeboard height above water is approximately 15' forward of the standard swim platform? I'm trying to figure out if my current dock set up will work for boarding around point.
Also would be great if someone could tell me approximate measurement from bow back to where the waterline starts. Trying to figure out how far from seawall I would have to put her if I nose in. I intent to get some fairly accurate measures Friday during the haul out but if I got the info ahead of time I could get started quicker.

That’s on my to do list also. I does make a big difference.
One comment I would offer...

I replaced all the interior bulbs with LEDs the summer before last. A huge improvement in power efficiency, brightness, and heat.

One thing I wished is that the salon and galley lights (salon especially) were dimmable. Or maybe I would have just gone with lower brightness bulbs in the salon. There are a lot of fixtures, and at night it would be nice to have a lower light setting. With them all upgraded, it can be too bright!

Funny you should mention salon dimmers, I just installed one.

Alex,
Is the 6k a cool white or a daylight ? My question is it to bright and not a soft light

It's the cool white.

After doing house renovations which included lighting upgrade to cool white, we like it a lot. It makes a noticeable difference on the boat, so I decided to do the same switch.

If you prefer soft daylight, they make matching LEDs. I tried them before doing cool white and they we almost identical to the original bulbs.

As always, one of the great benefits of LEDs is seeing AMP gauge almost at zero. Previously, with lighting on in couple rooms would draw 15-20 amps.

Ah, cool!

What dimmer did you use?
I used a Vimar momentary switch to match the others with a Hella dimmer module. It really changed the game.

Thank you. One of these?
