42/44 Sedan Bridge - Hull Question

I have a quick question. Is the hull on the current 42/44 Sedan Bridge the same as the former 400 sedan bridge model?

Also anyone with the 42/44 Bridge boats that can comment on the underwater exhausts? The reason I ask is -- I know someone with a 400 DB that has a bit of "station wagon" exhaust in the cockpit while underway on the 400 and they can't sit in the cockpit while underway too much diesel fumes...

How are people finding the 42/44 bridge boats with underwater exhausts rather than the through-hull side mounted exhausts on the larger 48, 52 sedan bridges. While at cruise how is the cockpit, largely free of fumes?

Any comments would be very helpful.

I doi not have a SB, but I am very familiar with underwater exhaust. If the fumes are unbearable this can be due to several possibilities.

1. Consistant following wind that keeps the cockpit flooded with exhaust: solution bear off the wind and tack the course down wind.

2. Too much back pressure in the underwater exhaust system causing more exhaust to be released out the By-Pass tubes which are above the waterline. The underwater exhaust maybe fouled.

3. The generator is the problem which doesn't have an underwater exhaust.

Thare mabe more causes, but if the exhaust fumes are opressive to most people, there is likey to be a problem in the system. I say most because some people just object to any exhaust odor and that is inescapeable around a boat.

I have a 44DB, my good friend has a 400DB. They are not the same hull, primarily in that the 44 has an integrated swim platform where the 400 platform is bolted on. I'm not saying they're not similar, they're just not exactly the same.

Nonetheless, I have spent significant time on both and I would say that neither has a discernible station wagon effect. There is, however, a difference in the amount and the substance of the exhaust fumes as the 44 ('06 and later) has the common rail fuel injection and the 400 does not. Some will say that the whole common rail thing is just "marketing hype" but I can assure you that the common rail is virtually smoke free.

JEL, I've got a 44 DB also and the admiral tells me that there's no exhaust smell in the cockpit. I've never ridden anywhere other than up on the bridge. I've got to agree with prodigalson on the common rail engines. When I first start up the boat and am letting the engines warm up at the dock, I'm usually all over the boat getting ready to depart and I've never smelled the exhaust, either. Gotta be the engines, 'cause the admiral would complain if there were any smell anywhere on the boat.
