I have a 2003 410 sd with ZF trans mated to 4126 cats. When the starboard trans is put into gear it takes 5 seconds to finally engage in gear. I have checked trans level, ok, and voltage, also ok. 12 volts to solenoid when put into gear. Sometimes it won't engage at all. Any ideas?

I had this problem once for about 5 minutes. It was on a very cold morning in December, obviously not your issue in Florida. I checked all the same things as you.

I never found the cause and the problem never reoccured.

In my case, it was only reverse on the port side. Are you having issues getting into both forward and reverse?

I'd post this on the diesel engine forum...
Just a WAG 'cause I really don't know, but is it possible a clogged/dirty filter screen could cause this? Have you changed or cleaned it recently?

Can you share what ended up being your problem? I am experiencing the same problem on the Port engine with similar systems. Always initially works and then after warming up it starts having trouble engaging in forward.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dennis

I have not had this issue but I would be interested to know what has been discovered in case I do in the future. The only issue I have had is a faint whine from the port side since I picked up a comforter on the port prop. I will be looking into a prop scan this winter and maybe even a haul out to inspect the running gear.
