410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Sounds like you have your plans set! Good luck with her.I am sure your trip home will be fine.Where are you picking her up?If you are coming anywhere through or near Jones Inlet on the way home, let me know.I am in the area and may try popping out to say hi.(you know, any excuse to use the boat…..)

Picking her up in Westbrook Ct., and not sure yet which way I'm going to go.
The shortest way is in Plum Gut, Peconic Bay to Shinnecock Canal, across Shinnecock Bay and out that inlet, then run the ocean back to Fire Island Inlet. My only issue with that route is I'm not familiar with the water until I get out in the ocean and the boat is new to me.
If I get someone to come along that knows the water out east I'll probably go that way.
The longer way is the LI Sound to the city. East River, NY Harbor and the ocean east to Jones Inlet. I think it's 20 or 25 miles longer that way but the sound is deep and once I get to the East River I'm in familiar territory.

When I picked up my 410da in Huntington, I went west to Manhattan and then took the ocean to Jones Inlet. It was a beautiful easy ride and the first time I took my own boat down the East River, which is an amzing view of Manhattan. It may be a little longer mileage, but it is faster and easier with all deep water.

But, if the wind is blowing 15+ from the southeast or east, I would go via the Shinnecock Canal.

The route through the city is tempting since I know the route between the East River and my dock in Lindenhurst pretty well, but Westbrook Ct. is much further East. Probably pretty much north of Cuthogue. Going to be a tough call.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

I stand corrected, I did not realize how far east Westbrook Ct is. I see one choice - shinnecock canal to shinnecock inlet if weather is good. If weather is bad, shinnecock canal and stay inside to Lindenhurst. If you stay inside, check with sea tow on the Moriches route.

Your other option if you want to avoid the shinnecock canal, you can go 45 nm out of your way and go around montauk point to the fire island inlet. I think that would be crazy, because you would add 4 hours (80nm) to your run.

The Shinnecok Canal is not difficult. All you have to do is call the canal operator ((631) 852-8299) and they will tell you when the lock is closed meaning no running water. You can also ask them when slack tide is, I would think during slack, then just leave the locke open and you just run 5mph thru locke, without having to stop (best choice if you are single handed).

Going through the lock single handed may not be that bad for you. If you can get one line looped around a cleat on shore while standing at your helm you should be fine. I actually went through the lock once without ever tying off. The Admiral was at the bow and could not lasso the cleat so I was using the shifters trying to get it "close enough" for her and before I knew it the lock was open. The water level only changes by a couple of feet so it is pretty quick.

Thanks! I just put that number in my phone.
I'm probably going to have two others with me so the canal shouldn't be a problem.
The delivery is scheduled with a Marine Max Captain for 4/21. I'm going to go up and do that by myself so I can spend some time getting familiar with the boat, getting my tools, basic gear and provisions stowed. I'll drive back home that night.
Marine Max has been fantastic and they told me there was no problem leaving the boat at their dock for a few days so I can pick a good weather day to run her around. I'd rather run the ocean back than go through Moriches so I'm going to wait for a good forecast.
We sea trialed her on the LI Sound in a nasty storm and while she handled it well I don't want to make the long trip home in those conditions.
The day of the voyage home the plan is to have my wife drive us up very early in the morning. I'd like to shove off from Ct. shortly after sunrise. If we go through Shinnecock she'll take the ferry out of New London to Orient so she's on the same end of Long Island as we are with a car if there are any problems during the approximately 105 mile run home.
We should be home by lunchtime if all goes well.
If I take the scenic longer route through the city she'll drive the car back that way.
The boat surveyed well and ran great during the sea trial and I don't anticipate any problems but it is still 15 years old and new to me so I want to be prepared.
Daylight, tools, good weather, TowBoatUS membership and a ride if we need it should cover it.

This was our redneck solution all summer as well! But I feel like it's an easy-enough project to make it look clean. I traced all the wires, and it's actually a MUCH easier run from the aft-head GFCI than it is from the existing outlet on the port. In fact, I can't even really trace the wires from that existing outlet, so I have no clue how I would run a new wire from there. But the aft-head outlet actually runs directly into the bundle of wires that run alongside the dashboard. That's an easy 5min snake job. The labor is just installing the outlet.

As it turns out, that is a VERY easy snake job. I used some fiberglass driveway stakes taped together and fished a triple-braid dock line from the cabinets over the salon settee up and out the cutout from the VHF speaker that used to work with the original B&H electronics. The hard part was fishing that wire into the junction box for the GFCI outlet in the aft head; I had to practically take the entire cabinet apart. But it was about an hour job total. And since I already had the hole cut for the old VHF speaker, I didn't have to cut another hole for the outlets. :smt038

Cockpit sink removal and replace:
My boat is still a 2 1/2 hour drive away for the next couple of weeks. I've got a replacement cockpit sink and faucet ready to install and may be heading up there this weekend to do it.
Aside from the regular tools that I have in my boat bag, what else might I need to get the cockpit sink out? Can anyone tell me how it is secured in the countertop and what I need to bring with me to remove and replace it?
One of the downfalls of the boat being so far away is that I can't run home to get something and there doesn't seem to be any hardware or big box type stores all that close to where the boat is located.

Check out this thread. May want to contact him and see what he needed/used.

Looking for white 2001 410EC emblems for the radar arch. Local dealer only had black and silver ovals that were made later.

I had quite a bit of luck on e-bay with a supplier that goes by "searayman13" He found some unique items for me.

I've had good luck with him too over the years. I usually pick up from him in person since he lives in the next town south of me. Nice guy and pretty knowledgeable about parts availability.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

On the sink removal, I just replaced my cracked plastic one with a new stainless sink and faucet. The sink was held in place with what looked like 5200. I whacked it a couple times from the bottom and it popped right out. I then used a hammer and some plastic dash tools to chisel the remaining 5200 off. It wasn't bad at all. I needed to put in a longer piece of 15mm blue water tubing and had to buy a stainless drain for the sink. The old one was either integral to the sink or epoxied in there. I used clear adhesive silicone to secure the new one in there. Did you buy the replacement from Ambassador? It looks so much better!

Thanks! I got the sink from discount marine supplies.
I figured on needing a drain. Was the tubing you bought needed to extend the drain line?
I wanted to swap out the sink and faucet during my next trip to the boat but now I may just wait until I get it home to do it so I'll have access to whatever tools I need to clean old 5200 beyond what I keep in my boat bag. I've also got a well stocked hardware store at the top of my home canal in case I need anything else once I get in to it. Probably better than having to search one out when I'm 2 1/2 hours from home.
Hate having the boat stored so far away because it limits my opportunity to tinker with things like this, but winterization and storage was included in the sale price so it was a trade off.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Be VERY careful removing the sink! Try to break the seal of the 5200 before removing or run the risk of ripping up gelcoat when pulling the sink out. Don't ask me how I know this. 

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Thanks! Yes, as soon as I heard that 5200 was used to secure the old sink it opened a whole new can of worms and I decided to put this mod off until I get the boat home and spend some time on it. I was hoping they would have just siliconed it in.
I'm going to try to tap a thin blade putty knife in between the surface and the sink and work ny way around it. Getting the old sink out is only half the battle. Cleaning the old 5200 off of the surface is not going to be a picnic either.

I just found this PWC towing system from Magic Tow, and would like to know if anyone has one and of course would like to hear any thoughts you all might have on it. https://www.magicmarinetow.com

Tom, if I were you I'd post that in a new thread. There just may be people who own other than a 400/410 and PWC. :)
