410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Our 2015 410 DA is a "SERP" boat, Palm Coast plant. Would the bottom be cored or solid? I assumed it was cored, but then I saw some conflicting info on it.

And the answer from Sea Ray is the hull bottom and sides are not cored, solid fiberglass. The cabin top has balsa coring.

Made my first stop of the winter storage season yesterday. Scum line's gone and I did some prep work for...flooring.

After I get the sides waxed I'm going to transition to the wood flooring project so many of you guys have done. Looking forward to spending more time inside the boat this winter vs crawling around compounding/polishing the outside.

We'll see how I fair on carpet removal. I won't miss my runners. They were one of my first DIY sewing projects. They are...functional...at best :)

Good luck and it is very time consuming but worth it and not only will you be happy with it the compliments make you feel good every time someone looks at it

It has been awhile but thought I'd give an update on my "newly" (now 4 months ago) purchased boat.

After waiting for the new elbow for oil drain tube to come from Russia, I finally got a day to put it in. Guess what? Oil still leaking, but just a much smaller leak, and now from the top of the tube. So after much head scratching we decided to take the whole thing off again and re inspect everything, Guess what, the top fitting of the oil drain tube was not flat. Both ears were bent down as if someone had tightened it with something supporting the middle but nothing supporting the ears. The amount of bend was just about the width of the gasket itself so that the middle part of the gasket would have never been squeezed no matter how tight we made the bolts. For the life of me I can't understand how those ears bent, but did not crack but whatever.

Once again the part was two weeks plus away if I ordered from Cat. So we decided to attempt to sand the fitting and see if we could make it flat. And it worked. The leak is gone! finally, after 4 months of dicking around with this issue. I've lost the summer, but of course here in CA, winter is just "summer light" so I will still be going out.

So now it is just a matter of getting a captain to come up to Oxnard and give me a couple days of instruction and I think I can start using the boat. It seems like most captains willing to train are in Marina Del Rey or Long Beach. I literally haven't been able to find a local one.

I am still in the midst of an oil change on the stbd engine. Just waiting for fuel filters to arrive. I have decided not to change the port engine oil as it was just rebuilt and has fresh oil and filters all around.

PS: oh yeah literally the day after we finally resolved the issue, Quinn gave me a call and told me my new turbo was in and they were ready to come out and repair the leak (by replacing the entire turbo). I asked them if they had ordered a new oil return tube assembly as well and they said no. I told them to send the turbo back. I hope to never have to deal with Quinn again.

==============================

I know, and can personally vouch for a really good Captain who is also a broker/mechanic in Marina Del Rey.

If it hadn't been for his work ethic, I would not own the boat I do today.

PM me if interested

BEST !

Well I had a nice relaxing day at the boat yesterday. After 20"+ of snow a week ago I was able to open the big door at my storage building and enjoy some natural sunlight with temps in the 50's. Crazy weather...as usual I guess.

I'm done waxing my hull sides in record time...November. I also pulled most of my canvas off for an at-home deep clean. Once I get the bottom painted I'll move into the cabin for a few months.

A good opportunity to clean the underside of my radar antenna :)

The top of the arch is on my list this year too. The radar is disgusting along with the TV antenna, lots of black spots

I was planning to do the top of the radar arch and radar dome before winterization, got too lazy though, I'll do it in the spring.

Just a general PSA - I took both of our toilets out today (rebuilding both) and underneath the base of each was a grime so gross it should not be spoken of again

for any other clean freaks in the group or if the head needs any work at all, pull them out and get a good clean. It’s only a couple screws that hold them all together. I have never noticed any major odor but there’s no way this didn’t smell at least a little.

Thanks for sparing us the pictures, @Strecker25 :)

I can confirm that the area under the engines and the shaft struts is all fiberglass...and a lot thinner then I expected. The pic is the base for the strut mount. You can see the hull thickness through the bolt hole.

That look's like someone's been in there before.

Got the bottom painted today. I'm 100% done below the water line on December 10. I've historically not even started working on the boat before January 1st. Feels a bit strange.

I hope to spend some time over Christmas getting the carpet out. Based on what I've heard I'm already behind on that project if I plan to launch May 1st :)

damn that looks great. Get the scraper blade on an oscillating tool and that carpet comes right up. I think the folks who had issues pulled it too quickly and the backing fell apart leaving a mess behind.

Looks great

Anyone even considering a duck bill replacement - just pull the vacuum generator completely out of the boat. It took me about 30 minutes to remove both of them and now I can really clean the tanks and rebuild all the parts. Way easier.

I can get pics but it’s nothing more than a wire connector and 4 screws

If you’ve never done duck bills, just very very careful tightening things. Hand tight only. Tighter is NOT better!
