410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Agreed. I think the larger group batteries only give you more amp hours, not so much CCA? My 340 had group 27's and I never had a problem. There's really no additional DC load in a 400 above what the 340 has. Two fridges...that's the bulk of it. Perhaps a few more lights but we should all have LED's at this point, a non-issue...

Yep, my 290 only had one fridge but we never worked two grp 27's very hard. We only spend a few nights on the hook a year and when we do I drop the main fridge (its the original) back down a little bit so it doesn't cycle constantly. I have all LED's now except the anchor light bulbs - do you guys happen to know what festoon size LED the anchor mast takes? I need to swap those out for sure

Does anyone have a direct replacement for the port and starboard nav lights on a 400? I ordered some online that I thought would fit, but they are quite a bit off in foot print and screw pattern. I would like to avoid filling holes if possible.

Ray, I went with Attwood LED's. The footprint is very close, but only 1 screw lines up. The little platforms the lights sit in are cored with plywood, so replacing the lights is a "caulk required" job anyway.

The profile of the Attwoods look good IMO, they're bright and there's an indicator on the top to see if they're on. (but I can usually tell by reflections anyway)

I actually don't recall. It is one bank only for sure. I lost all house functions while I drove to Batteries Plus to replace one bank this year. I just don't remember which bank that was...

I'll be doing the other side this year so I can confirm in a few months :) I noticed when visiting in storage this winter that my bank with 2017 born-on batteries is a littler lower on voltage than I'd like...

My '96 330DA taught me not to make assumptions about Sea Ray battery config. That boat was available with stern-drive/v-drive, big blocks, small block and w/o generator, but even that didn't matter. I had neighbors with the same power and generator, but their battery layout was different!

On my 400, the starboard bank is house and starting. I used to say that port was "critical systems", helm, nav lights etc., but I've come to realize that it's really more boils down to "inside vs. outside". My port bank powers the helm and cockpit / nav lights and ER hatch actuator.

One thing that's been consistent for the couple of Sea Rays I've owned and those of friends of mine - there is usually a battery its only job is to crank one of the engines, and that is always the port one. I don't know if it actually matters which one it is, but it's the one area of battery related things that's consistent (until Strecker25 just mentioned that he thinks his cranking only batteries start the starboard engine).

Thank you, that is exactly what I have now but I would really like to replace with something stainless and LED so I can forget about the bulbs in there.

Ray,

This is what I replaced mine with, however they don't appear to be available any longer https://www.amazon.com/Attwood-2-Mile-Mount-Navigation-Stainless/dp/B001O0DL56

This looks to be the latest Attwood LED's https://www.westmarine.com/buy/attwood--lightarmor-deck-mount-2nm-led-port-navigation-light--9034489

I really like the tattle tale on top too that I can see from the helm.

I replaced with the same Attwood LED navigation lights and they are awesome. I like the telltale as well, but I can only see the starboard from the helm. However, they are very bright and obvious when on in the dark.

I also got rid of that POS custom bent Perko 360 light on top by replacing it with the Attwood LED version.

do you remember what attwood light that is for the anchor light? I need one

for anyone following along, our boat is similar to the others mentioned where the starboard bank powers the DC stuff up top. Dash, electronics, windlass, hatch lift, anchor and nav lights, and even the arch lights. I have two cranking batteries on that bank now but I’m going to leave them, I can’t bother with deep cycles just for the anchor light and I’m either running the engine or on shorepower for the other loads

the port bank runs all DC loads down below.

Well I'm just a few days away from seeing my new swim platform. I was just naive enough to think I might be able to arrange for lift-gate service to my house. WRONG. Even though the platform will be just over 200lbs the fully crated rig is going to be 700+lbs. A massive box. She's going to have to make a stop for de-crating before I can get it in the back of my truck.

My plan is still to get the platform home and in my garage so I can apply the EVA flooring and install my H30 davit over winter. Some quality February garage time.

Really looking forward to spring....13 more Saturdays to go....ish...

Its that time of the year...

Still planned ahead:
-Replacing all of the gold knobs on the interior cabinetry with brushed nickel
-New cutlass bearings
-Remove both aftercoolers for cleaning
-Change coolant^
-Replace all engine zincs
-Change impellers
-Remove and replace all of the exterior caulking along the rub rail, engine room vents, windshield and radar arch
-Touch up waterline with VC-17

Are you doing the cutlass yourself? If so, either buy the strutpro or make a DIY version. It made mine so easy and you don’t have to pull the shaft

Yes, the Strutpro is the way to go. I have a friend who has one so thats a huge bonus.

I ended up destroying my set screws pulling them out, if you figure out which size and thread replaces them please share! I didn’t try and replace them yet

Look at all that room around the boat! Jealous. Looking great too. That black/gray boot stripe is on my short list. Very nice...

Does anyone know which torsional couplers this setup has?

View attachment 98047 View attachment 98048 Update. I still have not thrown it in the dumpster. It is a never ending process of gel cote, sand, fill and repeat. I like to do the sanding outside, however with it snowing I don’t think I will get anything done today.
Update #3
The underside is complete. I added 3/4 plywood pads for mounting aluminum support. All that is left is shoot matching gelcoat. Probably going to wait until spring warm weather day
