410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

That's impressive work. The projects never seem to end.

No updates on my search. Adding a Regal 4260 to the mix, hope to see it within 2-3 weeks.

Thanks, make sure your surveyor checks for bent struts...mine didn't :)

Regals are good boats. Good luck on the continued search

Back from the road trip to see a 4260 Regal. Definitely a different layout compared to the SR 400/410 but I am OK with it at this point. This wasn't the one so the search continues. Going to NJ next weekend to check out another Regal 4260 with a few gremlin issues which can be had for a good price.

Last fall I ordered a full set of brushed nickel knob and rosettes for my 400, upon installing a few of them I noticed that the new set does not have the proper offset and they sit in too far vs the old ones. I corrected this on two of them with a small washer but I am wondering if they sell the insert or if I just bought the incorrect knobs from Hafele.

I don't have the answer, but I have a question. Are these cabinet knobs you're referring to? Do you have some kind of model number or name so I could look them up on this Hafele web site? Thanks,

How much deeper is the offset Ray?

Happy to post the link after I figure out what I have or needs to be done. Theres a chance some are different. I thought that I saw some in the 460 thread that looked different than both of mine?

Although it's only been 2.5 months it's never taken me this much time to find the right boat. Probably know of every 1999-2006 40-48 diesel boat out there listed online. Of course the issue is my budget because north of 200k there are some really nice boats out there. These 99-02 Sea Rays are all in the 90-130ish range and then there are outliers asking lots more. So far I am not seeing a big difference between the boats for sale regardless of the price.

I've looked at a few 4260 Regals (like the layout), obsessed about 3 different Trojan/Carver 44 Express online and personally seen about 6 different 400/410s and haven't found THE one yet.

Wife is starting to regret selling our 04 340 because it was literally perfect, bright white, new upholstery, killer stereo, LEDs, updated electronics, SeaDek in cockpit and a flawless interior. Boat absolutely had a WOW factor. So far what I have seen has been zero wow factor. I do think the cream colored gelcoat in the years I am looking it doesnt look as new as the bright white of our previous boat.

Update:

About 50% of the latches in my boat have the spacer between the latch and the cabinet doors. Removed that and the Hafele knobs were a perfect fit. The only gotcha here is I have to move all of my catches closer to the front. Its always something!

I have the white interior in my boat, so I really wanted to get rid of the gold!

These are what I ordered up:
Knob: https://www.homedecorhardware.com/hf-229-10-320.html
Rosette: https://www.homedecorhardware.com/hf-229-11-320.html

If you have the spacer that is shown on this page, it will need to be removed or your knob will not be flush with the rosette.: https://www.searay-parts.com/Articles.asp?ID=240

This is fantastic. Silly question...how many total knobs/rosette's did you buy to completely change out your boat? I too deeply dislike the gold!

We felt the same thing and I was a bit surprised how much tougher it was to find the right one. My only experience was shopping in the 28-31' range when I bought our 290. There were many to choose from, not so much with the 410. Add in our diesel requirement and the pool got smaller. There are a few things against you right now -
  • the market is still hot
  • the 400/410 is a really good boat and sought after (and often kept by owners for a long time),
  • I'm sure SR made less of this size yacht than they did of the smaller cousins of the same year,
  • add in diesel power to all the above and your search narrows quite a bit, especially at the lower end of the price range

Update. I still have not thrown it in the dumpster. It is a never ending process of gel cote, sand, fill and repeat. I like to do the sanding outside, however with it snowing I don’t think I will get anything done today.

Glad to hear Ray! It took me 2 winters to completely remove all the gold inside, and out from our '01 410DA.

There are still two that are in the running as well as a Regal I will look at this weekend hopefully. Even if I add in trucking/shipping there are only two that I am interested in for now. Other point I need to consider is anything that comes on the market now will probably be less inclined to negotiate as we enter the boating season here shortly.

I just looked back at my order, I believe there are 24 in my boat.

Next up, the gold trim. I have discovered that if you lightly rub the gold trim that is around the counter top and moldings with a light steel wool the gold finish comes off completely and leaves a brushed look. I am going to experiment a little more. They all obviously need to be removed to do this but I am taking them off anyway.

As long as you're removing it you could replace it, and have your choice of finishes. I replaced all of mine, and @TheWolfTC just recently did all his on his 460DA as well. He posted some nice pics over on the 460 thread.

Thanks Tom,
I did see that, it looks incredible. I am not sure I want to get into a huge tedious project at this point since I am doing all kinds of other projects at the moment but I'm sure that I'll somehow end up going down that path.

Guys, I have 3116's with v-drives. What fluid do my v-drives take? I know I have this written somewhere and I am sure it is in the damn manuals on the boat, but I want to stop on the way to the marina and was hoping you could help a dumbass out... Thanks. Dan
