410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Another newbie question but since SR rebadges hulls for different model years I'm curious if the 2002 380 is similar/exact hull as the 98/97 400. I am assuming its different. If so, major differences between the 2 hulls, layout, design, etc. Looks like the 380 also comes with Cat diesels as well.

Guess I am wondering if i should keep my search for a 98/99 400 or look at a 2002 380....This is what winter does to me.

I think you'll find the 380s with diesels often cost as much or more than a 400 with the same engines but a year or two older. Diesel powered 380s are a rare bird

Other differences are the previously stated smaller size overall and the 400/410 has an extra head in the aft stateroom. I think the 380 also lacks a hard pocket door for the aft? Not positive on that though

The 380 is a good boat but if you're looking for diesel I'd stick to the 400/410 in your search. I started to look at the newer 42/44's when I was shopping because I liked the hardtop but those are still quite a bit more. 400/410 seems to be in the sweet spot.

The 380 with diesels is kind of rare and are about 10-20k more in asking price than the 400. I'm still stuck on this one 400 but it's damn near winter, its winterized, shrink wrapped etc. Most cost effective thing for me is to negotiate things and wait till early April to put the boat in the water for sea trail. After that I'd have to look for a nice weather window to make the 375 mile trek from MA to DE.

I'm not one for wishing time away but a little fast forward till April would be nice.

We've only been out of the water for 3 1/2 weeks, and I am picking up dinner and eating in my car in the harbor parking lot at least once each week....

It's going to be a really long winter. :(

lol! yes, yes it is.

Turk - my yard usually has to use a little heat on the hub to remove my props...with the puller.
Marina took off props, total $80.00. Took to PropTech, They have been very helpful, they scanned them and say that are in great shape, just need to adjust pitch 2” to properly tune the for the 410 with 3126’s. Should be about $350. I will be anxious to try them out in the spring!

what rpm are you shooting for, and what’s your current wot? Just curious as I’m doing the same thing

The closer match to the 2002 380 is the 370 from the late 1990’s
The 97/98 400’s are similar in size to the 410’s that followed them.
The 380’s and 410’s from 2002 are very closely related in layout with the 410 having about 3’ more length and about a foot wider beam.
Forward of the aft cabin, the two boats are pretty much the same. Although the 410 has a bit bigger beam, it isn’t immediately noticeable when you first get in the cabin.
The 410’s have a larger aft stateroom that has a pocket door instead of a curtain and contains the second head.
The cockpits in the 410’s are a bit more roomy too.
The extra beam in the 410 gives a bit more space between the motors in the bilge.
Diesels are very common in 410’s, but are pretty rare in 380’s of that vintage.
If you prefer a gas boat and don’t need or care about having a bigger aft stateroom with a pocket door and a second head, then the 380 is a fantastic boat and you’ll find lots to choose from.
If you want diesels, or a more private aft stateroom with it’s own head, the the 410 is the way to go.
I started out looking for a 380, quickly decided that I wanted diesels, the shifted my search to 410’s.
My kids are 23 and 20 now. When one of them spends the night they enjoy the added privacy in our 410’s aft stateroom, especially the private head and having their own TV back there.

Inside core and outside edge applied. I still haven’t gotten discouraged and thrown it in the dumpster! More shaping glassing and gelcote still left before I can flip it over.

Pretty my budget will steer me towards a 99 400DA with the 3116 engines. There is a 2000 410 I like as well but he's asking a bit much if you ask me. Still at least 3 months before any of this will actually happen.

where’s the 410? Even if it seems high might be worth a call, deals to be had in the winter :)

Another I know the answer to this but I'll ask it anyway because it's December. Do you guys take your boat out solo? Or with 1-2 useless guests? I imagine a lot of joy rides but with people who have never been on a boat before, etc.

I take mine out solo all the time. My docking situation is easy, I have all the lines preset and leave them at the dock. I have a set for traveling.

When I have guests I ask them to stay seated...I can have mine tied off in about 30 seconds flat.

easier when the wife is onboard but you can single hand these boats as long as it’s not blowing you off the dock too badly. For me a north wind blows us right on the finger and it’s the most common wind here on the Lake

I have it set up so only 2 lines will prevent me from banging into the dock...after that I'm in no hurry

We’re similar. Aft spring and the bow line is 50’ long so I can cleat the bow and use it as an extra spring
