410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

I got a question for you gassers here. I have a buddy that is looking at a 98' 400. It is an original owner boat with 1000 hours on the engines. It's been in the Great Lakes since new. He's nervous about the 1000 hours. I have 620 hours on mine and I feel that is low for a 21 year old boat. I'm curious how many hours some of you gassers have on yours? TIA

I have just over 1,100 hours on my '95. At 900 hours I installed a new long block on the port side, and at 1,000 hours I replaced both starboard side engine heads. One head was cracked, and had a blown head gasket, the other head had a couple tulip valves.

Both engines are running great now.

My '94 400EC had 1600 hours on her when an engine blew off Martha's Vineyard (coolant hose ruptured and lost all anti-freeze cracking block or head gasket (never found out what)) two seasons ago. Replaced both engines with remanufactured long blocks. Started voyage home from Mystic, CT with her July 5th, one year ago.

I've pushed past 1,200 on mine. Zero issues yet...knock on wood. I fully expect 2,500 hours before they need to be replaced.

Quick question, I need to change the impeller on my 7.4 Kw Westerbeke generator, it looks pretty hard to get to, how big of a job is it? I've done them on my old gas generators but there was a lot more room. Thanks

This for a 7.6 BTD? Pretty easy job. Its the same process of opening the cover replacing the impeller as gas. On a 2001 410 I have to open the small hatch and hang head down to access, laying on the main engine hatch.

One thing you will want to do is identify the pump yours has installed. They have changed pumps on this model over the years. Mine had been replaced with the new model and the old style impeller will not fit in the slotted shaft. Its nearly impossible to tell the impellers apart except the old style will not the new style shaft slot.

Mine just rolled 1,400. Maintenance is increasing, but it’s the accessories and things attached the blocks, not the blocks themselves. I replaced my mechanical fuel pumps last year, now the VST is giving me trouble. The internal water pump is now starting to drip. I’ve been through starters and pumps and distributors...

I basically believe hour meters only exist because we don’t have a better way to measure. Total fuel burned makes infinitely more sense, as do environment and maintenance records. These imaginary EOL points on hour meters make me grouchy!

I just did mine this weekend. I laid across the SB main and could reach everything fairly easily. I used a 1/4" ratchet w/ 7mm? socket to break the bolts loose and final tighten (not a flat blade screwdriver) and then removed and re-installed them by hand very carefully. The paper gasket is kind of a joke, I will keep extras on board from now on in case I tear one while installing.

I would suggest getting some extra screws (M4-.7x8mm) (these are not stainless, but they were off the shelf at HD and I'm fresh water, good enough in a pinch in case I dropped an original: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbil...c-_-THD_EMAIL_A_FRIEND-_-V1_M1_CA-_-VIEW_ITEM )

Here is a pretty good tutorial https://marinehowto.com/changing-a-raw-water-pump-impeller/

I bought the Johnson Pumps 09-810B-1 Impeller kit off Amazon. It had everything except the 2 extra screws, cost less than half of the Westerbeke kit and I had it in one day. I believe Johnson may even supply Westerbeke with the exact impeller that Westerbeke sells in their kit.

So I received my new Lewmar anchor last week. The 200' of chain, swivel and shackles delivered today. I look forward to getting this hooked up this week.

As luck would have it, we were able to retrieve my old anchor on Sunday as well! I was on a friends boat cruising in the same location that I lost the anchor a week prior. Calm day, clear water and from the bridge we had perfect visibility. The chain spread out straight from the anchor made it very easy to identify. I'm shocked it hadn't been covered by sand. A buddy of mine swam down, tied a line and together we pulled it up.

So now I have a spare 35lb plow with chain. :)

Your new anchor is way too pretty to use! I would use the old one :)

Seriously. I may put the stainless one on for looks and just throw the galvanized rig over board by hand to keep the new one safe :)

Hey there BGIII, thanks for the post. I just changed my 7.6BTD genset impeller and ordered some spares. When I got the spares, it seems the impeller pin in the old style is thicker than the new style.

I ordered the new 048500 impeller kit and it came with an impeller that the pin is too wide for the notch in the shaft. Does the 09-810B-1 impeller come with the wide shaft or thin one? Hope that makes sense! Can anyone else chime in?

I've ordered from both Stay Cool Pumps and the guy on Ebay and never seem to know what I'm gonna get. The one guy on Ebay suggested I just swap the pins from the old one to the new impeller, but I'd rather not. I'd also rather not pay $40 if I don't have to. The Johnson pump impeller 09-810B-1 is only $19 from Boatersland, but it also shows the old style gasket as well as an o-ring, so I'm confused.

Sorry for all the stupid questions on my part lately, had one helluva weekend! Anyway I thought I found the right part but it just showed up from amazon and is not the same. Does anyone know the part number for a replacement toilet seat? The one I am looking for is bone in color and light weight plastic. I think it is oem. In another forum they listed a round bemis replacement but it is heavy wood and I'm afraid it will slam down and break the bowl while underway...

Edit: I think I got what impeller will fit in which pump wrong...old pin and shaft slot were larger, so wont fit in new pump.

The pump models are stamped into the stainless cover plate, and the newer model is completely round. The older model had a "flat" on one side. Newer model has an o-ring for seal, older has a paper gasket.

The pin on the new pump impeller can be pushed out easily by hand (this is a Westerbeke 48500 Impeller Kit) The old shaft slot and pin is slightly bigger, so it wont fit into the newer pump. It is easy enough to swap them out from what I recall.

The impeller in the Westerbeke kit is a Johnson 810. I've seen these for $10 on ebay. May try one or two.

Pin. Diameter is approximately .1375" in the center. I think that the old style impeller pin wasn't necked down in the center, but its been a couple years since I fooled with the old impeller.
