410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Look on Pg 97 of this thread, you can see how I installed the muffler and part number. The exhaust is now very manageable, but the mechanical sound and vibration is still a little much. The next step will be to redo the motor mounts to reduce the vibration and add some sound insulation around it. It will make some difference , but wont totaly kill the sound /vibration either.

I was skimming through the muffler upgrade post and it looks like Riptide and the Boogaboo video installed an inline muffler before the factory one. They left the factory one in place. dtfeld in post #1927 looks like he replaced the factory one with a bigger upgraded one if I'm seeing it right. The inline one looks to be an easier install. Is one way better than the other or is it just personal preference? I don't use mine very often (111 hours on it in 20 years) but if it was quieter I probably would use it more. I'm assuming they are 2 different styles/part numbers. I saw the part number for dtfeld's but was wondering what Riptide used to compare $$.

Easy question for you 400/410 owners out there - Where do you guys have your fire extinguishers mounted??? I had my USCG safety inspection last weekend and it made me realize two things 1.) I had an expired extinguisher and 2.) neither of my units are mounted. They just float around in cabinets.

I looked around the boat yesterday trying to find a good, visible location both in the cockpit and in the cabin to properly mount the two new extinguishers I bought this week. I struck out. Most surfaces that would be "out of the way" but still visible are curved, non useable.

Are you guys keeping yours inside the storage cabinets? Any spots I'm missing? Just curious and thanks for any ideas!
One just inside transom door, one to the left of the cockpit door to salon, one mounted just inside kitchen sink door and one mounted inside large closet in master stateroom.

I called Centek before I did mine (upgraded to a dual stage). They said not to install both an inline muffle and an upright muffler as it will cause too much back pressure. I would suggest you call them to get the right setup and model as they make a lot of different designs based on individual setups. Yours may be different than what a appears to be a similar boat.

I called the generator manufacturer out of concern for the same thing. They (Westerbeke) said that it wasn't an issue. So I went ahead. I got the idea from a friend who did it last year.

I have a 7.6 BTD and I think it’s ok either way based on talking to Centek. Since I had no idea of the condition on the inside and 20 years salt exposure, I choose to replace. It was a pretty easy job, but remove the 2x4 brace to gain access.

So I bought two new group 31 batteries for the house bank. I'm in the middle of my first trip of the season. I noticed that both Banks were draining together. I then shut off the port battery and left on the house. Instead of reading zero volts it was 10v the house was 12.8. I then did the opposite. I shut off the house. Turned on the port. The port read 13v house read zero. This is what I would think it should do. I then tried the first way again. Now the port read zero and the house 12.8. The 10 stray volts had disappeared. Back to what I think is normal.
Why? I'm thinking the emergency tie was maybe partially engaged or the dual voltage meter switch on the panel may be dying. Any thoughts appreciated.

Assuming you’re reading it from the panel in the cabin:
Simple stuff first? Are the connections on all of the batteries nice and tight?
Have you checked the voltage at the batteries with a multi meter to eliminate the possibility of a wonky gauge in the panel?

Yes all voltages were checked and the panel is pretty close connections are clean

Since you mentioned switching between banks I’m going to assume the motors weren’t running and your plugged in with the charger on.
I would go by the voltage across the batteries.
If the voltage across the batteries is different than what’s on the gauge in the cabin then it might be the gauge getting tired or the connections on the back of it needing some attention.
If like me, you have that momentary switch on the panel to depress to read one or the other battery bank then maybe it’s that switch.
Either way, if the voltage across the batteries is good then at least you can be reasonably sure that the charger is working and the batteries are good.
If you’re plugged in with the charger on and the voltage is not what it should be across the batteries (concurs with the gauge in the cabin) then I would suspect the charger.

Engines were not running. I know the charger and batteries are good. What I have or had was a low voltage bleed over across the batteries. Do not know why but it did go away. Wierd stuff.

Any suggestions on how to re-connect one of the hoses to the bow horns? I have dual trumpets in the anchor locker that are fed from a single compressor into a tee. One of the hoses from that tee has become disconnected and I am not able to get in there. The admiral and I tried to hang upside down in the anchor locker and we still can't reach the hose to put it back on. Am I missing something?

Hey guys, I have an all fresh water 410 sundancer with 3116’s that I’m going to be selling. Listing will be coming soon, let me know if you know of anyone interested in a 410. Thanks Jason
