410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Hey 400/410 owners - have any of you guys found a neat trick for pulling a wire from the stereo head unit in the cabin all the way up to the helm?

I spent an hour this weekend taking most of the starboard "cubby wall" apart in the mid-cabin area. Without removing the electrical outlet completely I don't see how that wall section comes out. It was at this point I decided to go no further. I was going to start breaking stuff.

Another thought I had was trying to use the existing Clarion remote wires to pull the new wire with. I'm assuming these will be secured along the way but I might give it a shot before going back into the mid-cabin.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Yes, did this job with my new head unit with remote. The wires actually run through a corrugated wire tube from stereo to helm. Pull the storage box right of helm out. At the forward floor level tube ends there. I ran a snake with a extra string from the stereo end back towards the helm. I also attached a led camera endoscopes 20ft to the end so I could keep tabs on areas that got tricky like bends and turns. I placed a flash light at the helm side so as I approached I knew I was close to the exit. Lots of wires to get past but enough room to get through. Left the string there for future projects.

The endoscope hooked to my Samsung phone with app. Amazon 15 bucks.

Hope that helps.

Mark

I have one and recently replaced it because it was leaking. I believe we do need this valve. If only I could remember why :)

I remember why...if you crank too long the exhaust will suck in water without it. Had my oil changed 3 times in 1 week before they figured out the starting problem. Mine was the pre-heat gizmo.

Calling 400DA / 410DA boats..... How many of you have / don't have a siphon break for your gennie? I've got a Westerbeke 7.6 KW BTD with no siphon break... I guess it isn't needed?

I did not have one on my Westerbeke Genny. Was getting water in my oil and had a very hard time figuring out where it was coming from. I eventually put the water break in and it fix the problem. Highly recommend.

Added an inline muffler to the generator exhaust system. It really quiets the exhaust note. I called westerbeke to make sure it wouldn't hurt the genset they said no problem. I did have to make a 4" platform for the original to sit on.

Come on man, you can’t tease us this way. What, how, some detail. Recording of what it sounds like? Share.....

Easy question for you 400/410 owners out there - Where do you guys have your fire extinguishers mounted??? I had my USCG safety inspection last weekend and it made me realize two things 1.) I had an expired extinguisher and 2.) neither of my units are mounted. They just float around in cabinets.

I looked around the boat yesterday trying to find a good, visible location both in the cockpit and in the cabin to properly mount the two new extinguishers I bought this week. I struck out. Most surfaces that would be "out of the way" but still visible are curved, non useable.

Are you guys keeping yours inside the storage cabinets? Any spots I'm missing? Just curious and thanks for any ideas!

I have one mounted under the galley sink and another in the fwd part of the ice-maker cabinet. There was a third mounted to the underside of the galley hold hatch, which IMO was a terrible location. I have it just sitting under the sink now.

Forward corner of galley countertop and in little space that looks to be for that purpose below helm passenger seat. That cutout is in the port forward corner of the seat base.

I redid with a 2 stage and it made a YYYYUUUUGGGEEE difference. I think I paid about $350 for the dual stage muffler and it was worth every penny. I did an install post, but not video, the video did not do justice to how much of a reduction in noise there was.

The previous owner replaced my genny with a brand new Westerbeke in April of 2016.
Wondering if it might have a two stage muffler. I’ll have to crawl in there to see if I can see a part number or something.
My generator is pretty quiet. I can hear it if I’m sitting in the cockpit but the radio and conversation usually drowns it out.
The humming of the genny itself seems louder than the exhaust to me.
Or, I may be getting a little hard of hearing and just don’t notice it.

I did a before and after video also. I was going to post it. However, I just looked at it and the sound quality is poor and you can barely tell the difference. It's not worth editing and posting. I did install all new insulation on the engine room hatch last year. I am going to try to add some behind the gen to the side of the hull. Most of my sound now is the generators moving parts. No longer exhaust.

What did you use to secure the new sound insulation with? Mine is falling off and haven't been able to find anything that will stick to the underside of the hatch.

Regarding the genny muffler. There's a Sea Ray guy named Paul who has a lot of really good boating videos (I'd be surprised if he doesn't visit this site). He's got a 33 DA, here's the link to his video of his install:

There is a company called Soundown. They sell an adhesive that works better than the 3m. They were very helpful I bought all my insulation from them. It's not cheap. It has a layer of rubber between the two layers of foam. It is much heavier that the original. They recommend the spray foam and pins that you epoxy onto the hatch. I got the price down by offering to buy remnants from them.

Thanks for trying. Jeff

If anyone has a handful of those pins to hang the insulation, I'd love to buy some from you. Really don't need 100. Thanks for sharing.
