40 sedan bridge forum

Well, we did it. Ran into Florida Bow Thrusters at the Annapolis Boat Show last October and had a long discussion about swim platforms. Then my wife and I went over and walked on all five of the Sabres and Back Coves they had at the show. Nothing like the price of a new boat to make a hydraulic swim platform look inexpensive! We had been looking at new platforms for a couple years and weren’t happy with any of the after market ones we looked at. So we went with FBT. They did an excellent job getting “in there” behind everything to get the old one off and the new one on. No small feat as the exhausts had to come off. Bonus - they relocated my Reverso so it’s now easier to access! We splashed today. After one test run, it didn’t feel low in the stern at all - something I was thinking about. And that’s with full fuel and mostly full water. I find myself still “stepping up” to come in the transom, but I suppose I’ll get used to it. I love that the platform is no longer at the water line.

Steve, it looks great and I am very jealous. Nice job. Greg

Hi. Does anyone know where is the relay switch for the horn installed? Where do the wires from the horn run from the anchor compartment?
My guess is relay is under the dash as I think my compressor is there for a bridge mounted trumpet horn wired from the regular horn button . I’m guessing my locker horns were shot years ago. it’s something I hope to find out anyways also. There’s a load of posts about the horns , I haven’t read them all yet, e.g http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/40-sedan-bridge-forum.53961/page-271. I recall reading about the port main cabin speaker being removed to try to get access to the locker horns which if I recall was a fail, but maybe the cables are there. but I can’t find that post again

The compressor for the horn is located behind the TV in the forward stateroom

Thank you!

Anybody have the part numbers and best place to get AC Filters? I have two different sizes on the Sea Candy. I ordered the wrong sizes the last time but made them work. My model numbers SX12-Q5 smaller filter and SLX16-Q4
Thanks

argh! I did the same thing. Got two for the SX12, thinking they were the same units. Silly me. @ZZ13 (Bill), you had a spare that you sold for lunch. But you never answered the question about the part number! Lol. Do you know the p/n for the SLXR16-Q4 (16k unit)?

Ha! RayO was acutally the one who traded lunch for it. Sorry but I don’t know the part number. I had to buy a brand new unit to free up the other one, which I removed before I tossed the failed unit. Best bet is to call Dometic. They have excellent customer support.

I have two defender part numbers written in my notes, 901528FIL605 and 901528FIL601
those would be dometic #'s 235000605 and 235000601 in case you want to shop them. I don't know off the top of my head which one is the SRX-12 or the SLXR-16, I always buy then together. Should get you going in the right direction.

Actually, that helps. I have two of the 235000601 (9 3/8" x 10"?) , which fit perfectly in the master stateroom unit but is too small for the unit under the galley stairs. The 235000605 looks to be larger, at 10-7/8" x 12". So that's prob the one!

Can you share how you converted to digital?

Search this thread for "Aetna". The digital tachs are discussed several times throughout. Here's one of them:

http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/40-sedan-bridge-forum.53961/page-300#post-1290404

They are plug and play, you just have to tell them what sender your boat uses so they can configure the tach properly. They will also do custom labeling/lettering on the face of the tach. I spoke with them over the winter to see if they would put the current engine hours on the face of the tachs. I thought that would be an easy way to remember what the old tach engine hours were. Adding that number to the hours these new tachs show (they have to start at 0, they can't program to an existing value) would give total engine hours. They said they could and would do this. I just haven't pulled the trigger yet...

Here is the link:

Pretty simple to setup. Just set the dip switches to match what motor you have and it is pretty much plug and play aftter that. The hardest part is you need to jumper the old lights so the remainder of the instruments will light up. The tachs are lit automatically.

I bought mine from Common Ground. They were less expensive. https://commongroundmarine.com/engine-controls/instrumentation/

Looking for advice on what owners use for cockpit seats where the original is no more as per my boat. I’ve looked at what’s available for boats and pontoons , bench seats etc, but the best stuff is either custom or in USA where I am not. And prices are not pleasant surprises. So I figured what do you use fellow cruisers. Separate seats, cooler box seats , ? Etc. Am after serious comfort. I still have the rear backrest in place .

I scanned many posts and seems the original had issues anyway with the slider.

Another option but a bigger deal effort wise is for me to make a box seat using glassed foam and epoxy , roughly the same footprint as the original but maybe squarer, Then add some custom diy thick faux leather upholstery

This bridge remodel has some ideas.

Doinked the swim platform into the corner of a concrete pier backing into a slip on my way home from FL last month. Got lucky as it hit right on the truss so it didn’t split the lip. So I figured I’d give it a go myself. Just used epoxy putty to reinforce and patch paste to coat with gelcoat. Turned out good enough. No worse than any other part of that lip. I have a thin area on the curve where I sanded too much. I may try to add gelcoat one day. Really needs a spray to build that up rather than a paste. That was the hardest part about using the paste. Easy to oversand the good area adjacent to the patch paste.

Went out to the boat for the first time this spring….does anyone have any idea of if there is a in line fuse or breaker other than the main for the fridge?
I have the original, and I noticed it didn’t fire up yesterday when I turn the breaker on….no green light on the bottom inside the door.
I watched the Boogaboo video on removal, but, I thought I try you guys first.
