I did. But on my 2001 the horns are on the starboard side right inside the locker. So super easy access. If yours is on the port side that's tougher. I think Cwiert did his on the port side of his 1998 model. Hopefully he will post his experience if that applies to you. I am not sure what year you have.

For anyone replacing their plastic horn covers with the stainless version that some have posted from Amazon and Ebay. I bought one and found that it's also a direct replacement for the fridge vent cover. My original had completely disintegrated in the sun over the years. I think the stainless version is pretty cool there.

Hey everyone - I have a 2002 with Cat (C7) engines and am looking to replace my Racor filters on both engines. I have never replaced them before (were replaced by PO), and need to order them. Anyone have any data on these? Thank you in advance.

Yes, I removed my horn from the port side to refurbish it. It was a PITA, from what I remember. I think I started with the boat on the hard and going at it from the outside on a ladder to unscrew some screws. Then it was just trying to be a contortionist to reach it from the anchor locker. Sorry, that was one of the first projects I did about 4 years ago, so I don't really remember all the steps to the process. I know it sucks, and I know it can be done, because I did it. Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck.

1998 400 DB fresh water tank getting hot when gen runs for 2 or more days 8.0 westerbeke BTD sits in front of fresh water tank and it heats up whole tank in 2 days. After 3 days it’s as hot as my hot water heater. I heavily insulated the tank and it improved but still pretty hot. I was thinking of building some sort of cover for the gen and insulating it well to keep heat in any help would be great!

I am thinking to buying a Dinghy to carry in the platform.
what will be the best size to fit in our boat. I saw West marine and they have the RIB-271 which is 8"-6" long and the next RIB-310 which is 10-2" .

according to your experience and use, what size you recommend, also about the weight.
I am thinking of installing the Hurley marine davit H20
    see link attached

Any ideas and recommendations will be appreciated.

post how you carry your dinghy

Fernando, I have a Highfield 8' 6" Rib with aluminum bottom and 6hp Tahatsu on a Hurley H2O. It's a perfect fit. Just barely light enough that I can hoist it on myself. This is the only photo I have handy.

That looks great. and with that engine 6hp is enough to move the dinghy at reasonable speed?

I have a Zodiac Wave 10-2" RIB with a 9.8 Tohatsu. I carry it on the Hurley H2O. I have no issues with this set up and can fairly easily pull it up myself. I'll look for some pics.

Just bought a Lowrance Carbon 12 depthfinder / chart plotter this morning. Contemplating having a 1/4" stainless plate cut that would bolt to my existing zinc bolts w/ the zinc remounted on top of that, to avoid drilling a hole in my transom, and more importantly having to haul the boat just to mount a transducer. If it didn't work, then I would ditch the bolted on plate, and epoxy on a starboard type transducer plate at my next haulout. I've never had my zinc off. I assume that it's just bolted flat to the fiberglass, and something could be bolted on behind it?? Mine is still a 20 year old original in a freshwater lake, and it's never been off. Love to hear any opinions on whether I could do this.

With one person only, it will plane nicely at 15mph. With two people it won't plane. You'd need 8hp or 9.9hp to plane with two people.

I don't know about that. You asked for opinions, and that's all this is... my opinion. I don't love the idea. Your whole boat bonding system goes through those bolts. All the dozens of green wires in the bilge, go to those bolts. I wouldn't want to mess with that in anyway. It might work and be completely fine, but I'd rather just wait until its out of water and do it right the first time. Just my $0.02.

FWIW, I love the 9.8 Tohatsu. I can plane with 4 (somewhat fit) adults.

I’m looking st the Ultra lite UL260

    Question
Did you have to reinforce the platform with extra support?

Nice picture, looks like you are at full speed, good to know that you can plane with 9.8 HP

Nice to know that you can fit a 10-2” in the platform
Did you reinforce it (platform) with extra brackets?
