Been paying $4.50 for the large bag of ice. :smt021:smt021:smt021 It is frozen water in a plastic bag! I don't want to hear anyone complain about the cost of pharmaceuticals ever again. At least pharmceuticals save/prolong/improve your life!

What we need is government universal ice plan. No one should have to go without because they can't afford it.

I'm in the wrong business.

You'll need to default on your ice payment before the government will step in.:smt013

Is that a resort price? Fortunately our club has an ice machine and free ice. At $4.50 a bag you might as well buy your own machine.

I think there's a government program for that... they take the 4.50, give 4 of it to the government mgmt of the program, and send the .50 to the person selling the ice.

I'm talking about at the local quickie mart. They are all the same price. A little cheaper at the big grocery stores. At the camp I have an icemaker in my frig. I was buying for kids sports teams.

Here is your solution.

Use the ice, keep the bag.

When you need another bag of ice put some water in the empty bag then return it as defective and ask them for a swap for a different bag of ice.

That will obviously not work, they'll see the hole you made to open the bag... Come on!

It won't work. There is a warning label on the bag of ice telling the buyer that it must be kept cold:smt101. If you bring back a bag of water you will have violated the warning label!

Heck, I feel better now. I was starting to complain about the $2.00 I'm seeing in our area. Somebody said that clean water was going to become the next hot commodity.

$4.50 for a whole bag? That's cheap based on a recent visit to Atlanta.

I was in Atlanta on business and had a night to myself. I decided to treat myself to a nice sushi dinner and opted for the MF Sushi restaurant in Buckhead. The dinner was great, but when I got the bill I was surprised by the price of my Dewars on the rocks. The scotch was $10 and they charged me a dollar for the rocks. That's $1 for about 4 ice cubes!

I calmly explained to the waitress that this was an unacceptable practice. She finally had the manager come over and explain that when they pour a drink "on the rocks" they use ever so slightly more liquor, hence the upcharge. Undeterred, I explained to him that I would have been happy with a scotch neat with free ice on the side. he didn't budge.

The waitress ended up paying the $1 since she should have alerted me to this unusual practice. Anyway, $4.50 per bag seems cheap compared to 25 cents per cube!

PS: I make my own ice on board.

That’s nothing.

I was in a fancy-dancy French restaurant. The menu was in French. All I could read were the prices. I ordered the cheapest thing off the menu……….it turned out to be the cover charge.

It's funny that you just posted this, A local Ice company has been running a radio ad warning people that not all bags of ice are the same, stating some are made in gas station or just tap water, there facility is inspected and their staff is trained. I never hear an ad for ice cubes..

I got a portable ice maker off ebay for ~$65 makes 30#'s of ice a day. It should pay for itself in one long weekend of boating...

In fact we make most of it at home and keep a freezer full to take with us... Great for drinks and keeping fish cold...

wait, if the government gets involved they will soon mandate the use of paper bags rather than plastic. And the cost will surely rise since there is certainy going to be some sort of shortage in the summer months

Ummm doesn't ice displace the scotch and take up room in the glass? wouldn't that actually cut down on the amount of liquor being dispenced?

Im going to interject my rant here.......

That is probably the most F'd up thing I've read on this board. Obviously you were in an upscale place and Im sure you are not one to throw a fit & make a scene HOWEVER, I hope that you some how told that freakin jackass who thinks he is "managing" how full of **** he is with that BS line ("when they pour a drink "on the rocks" they use ever so slightly more liquor, hence the upcharge.") What freakin employee handbook did that come from?!?! That is freakin pathetic.

If I was still drinking I'd like to go over there (Buckhead is <2 hrs away), enjoy a drink, listen to his line of shet, pay the bill, tip well & smile. The next day when it was time to open they'd find a truck load of ice neatly stacked across the front entrance. As he was "managing" his way to the door I'd ask him.........Hey buddy, How much for a cup of ice?
