4.3 MPI Smart Craft System water pressure

Does anyone know what the running psi should read on the gauge for the water pressure? I've contacted Mrecury and have gotten many different answers some say 40 psi is ok others say less when I first got the boat both engines ran about 2psi then as the season went on my port engine read 40psi and my starboard still read 2psi at the end of the season both read 40psi, after power washing the drives there both back to 2psi when flushing with the ears on. The water intakes didn't look clogged,any info would be great.
