Our port engine runs at 134 and starboard runs at 156. We've owned the boat for 5 months now (its got 175hrs) and until last weekend they both ran at 154-156, so I'm not thinking that the port has a lower temp thermostat in it. The temps have been consistant for the past two weekends when we've probably run for a total of 3 hours. Any ideas???? I'm thinking that I might replace the termostat on the port, just for good measure. I've heard of them sticking but never just reducing in the temp that they open. Also, is there any difference btw a marine thermostat or one from the auto store???
Thanks

Mike

If I were you, before you start changing parts, I would go out and invest in a infared thermometer and shoot the temp senders on both engines and compare the results to the guages. This tool is one of the most usefull things on a boat, and they can be had pretty cheap this days.

Good idea J
Sounds like your thermostat may be stuck open.

Get a Merc t-stat. It's not that big of cost savings

yes, get one of those infrared temp jobbers, I think I bought mine for $17 on ebay.

Is it possible that one of the splines (sp?) on his SB impeller might have broken off?

I have the same problem... I'm assuming one of my impellers got damaged. My SB engine is about 15 degrees higher. This happened after coming home in low tide. My canal is pretty shallow and I believe I ingested some sand/muck.

Anyways... just a thought.
