4.3 liter Mercruiser TKS (GM 282) oil filter conversion kit available?

I have a 2008 185 Sport. My oil filter is in a place where I physically cannot get in there to reach it. Its located on the aft, lower, port side of the engine. I would like to do my own oil changes. I saw a picture of a newer 4.3 liter engine and it looked like the oil filter is now very accessible? Is that correct?

Is there a kit or parts available so that would allow the oil filter to be moved to a more accessible place?

If so and if the work was done by my MerCruiser or SeaRay shop/dealership, would the engine still remain under warranty?

Is that the oil filter I am seeing on the port, forward side of the newer 4.3 liter MPI engine? http://www.mercurymarine.com/engines/inboards/sterndrives/mpi4-3l.php

Older TKS engine (for comparison) http://www.mercurymarine.com/engines/inboards/sterndrives/tks4-3l.php

It appears there is already a mounting bracket there on the TKS engine for an oil filter.

The "Oil Filter Relocation" is a standard feature with fuel injected models. Yes, you can get a kit. Yes, you would certainly retain your warranty if a Merc-Certified company/person did the work. It does not have to be performed by a Sea Ray dealer, just Merc-Certified.

It can be done in your boat, but I'll admit it's not the easiest thing to do. It's more of a "by feel" thing, than by doing it by sight. Unless you start removing things that are in your way.

Hope this helps,
Dennis

I'm a bit confused then. If I were to buy the filter relocation kit then would it would still be a "by feel" oil filter replacement? On the 4.3 MPS engine the oil filter appears to be in plain site on the port forward upper side of the engine? Is that something else other than the oil filter?

Thanks Dennis :)

No, sorry for the confusion. I meant if you keep it where it is.

The kit brings the filter "up top" just like on an MPI (multi port injected) engine.

Dennis The remote oil filter relocation kit should put the oil filter on top on the engine just behind the oil reservoir for the drive At least that is the way my 4.3's are set up

Stress,

I think I'm a faster typer than you... :smt001
