390 EC complete restoration thread

Pietro,
This is still one of the best redo threads on CSR. Your passion for your boat is inspiring. If I ever get a chance to spend time in Italy I'll look you up. Next time I'm in Aix-les Bains, France, I may take a long weekend and come see MoonChild.

Bill, this would be great. You can fly to Rome both from Lyon or Geneva! Keep in mind I should splash by Easter, april 8.

Ciao :smt001

Pietro,
I just spent the last hour or so "catching up" on your thread after being AWOL the last few months. Your 390 is absolutely beautiful! It is great to see it in the water and to know how pleased and proud you must be. I can't begin to tell you how valuable your posts, pictures and patient answers to all our questions have been to me as I work to keep my own 390 in shape.

Thanks so much!

Pietro:

My wife and I love your restoration. What an inspiration you have been. We have a 89 390 that we bought two years ago for a "song and sang it ourselves", a saying we use in Texas. The guy had owned it for 18 years and let the engines and trannies freeze the year before we bought it. The marina lost power and they could not get the genset started. Needless to say we bought this "ghost ship" as my wife calls it with two brand new engines and trannies with a broken swim platform for $20K. Shipped her up to Lake Texoma, had the genset rebuilt "quicksilver 8.0", had the teal stripes from the outside repainted black, and some minor fiberglass work done. So far we have installed all new electronics, lowrance, all new stereo and speakers, all new lights on the outside except the spot, still on the list. Everything has been great, but this year we lost our aft airconditioner (any advice on replacing that, brand etc....). Our refridgerator went out (any advice on replacing that?), we are having problems with the vacuflush losing pressure and it keeps pumping back up,(all the lines replaced, new duckbils, new toilet parts. Someone said it could be a crack in the housing?). I replaced all the plumping lines and some new plumbing fixtures. Just now taking out old tvs (the original panasonics were still working) what size tv's did you use?
So we knew it was going to be a big project, but the list keeps adding up. Now the water tank is leaking. I looked at all your pics and recommendations, please tell me where you ordered your stainless steel tank. Our shower does not leak, the sump is great. Just A LOT of other big tickets items for us to replace. Our "Big Some Beach" is going to be almost brand new when we are done with her. We are going to replace all the "teal" carpet with some type of vinyl/flexi teak when we rip out the carpet. We also are having the bunk room upholstery updated. There is teal carpet everywhere!! We like a little teal in with the black, but this boat has a little much. We still have to reset the side windows, replace the windshield trim (thank you for all the parts we need to order from TM). Anyways, now that I have wrote a book.....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Your boat is beautiful, (we have watched the transformation) my wife's family on her moms side are all Italian immigrants who settled in San Francisco. I promised her someday I would take her to Italy. She is very proud of her Italian heritage. Thanks, Tim and Laura of "Big Some Beach".

I'll be happy to be the bigger brother to your 300  ...I just love the classic 300, 340 and 390 SR!!!

Lights are shadow-caster http://www.shadow-caster.com/ 2 of them in bimini blue.

I found the TV hold in a RV shop....I hope it won't rust... TV are Toshiba with built in DVD.

The day I'll splash will be a great one... pity no CSR fellows with me :smt089

Tim and Laura, it's great being of inspiration! Restoring a boat you love is a tough task but it can be really rewarding! I have now a classic express cruiser with all the amenities of a new one...and everybody is telling me how beautiful it is! I'm a proud owner.

Please have a look at Al thread too, what he's doing is amazing! http://clubsearay.com/showthread.ph...press-Restoration?highlight=390+florida+based

...and post some pis of your 390 too!

I have substituted my old salon A/C with a new unit from Marine Air (dometic) with electronic control. So far no problems.

Fridge: go for VITRIFIGO, no doubts about it. They make a model thats has the same dimensions as the original Norcold. You'll find lots of threads about Vitifrigo on this forum.

TVs are Toshiba with DVD 19" and 21"

See you in Italy!

Ciao Pietro

I read the tread for the forth time and I keep pondering the teak holly floor in the cockpit. I looked it up from the the info you gave us. is a roll of vinyl? It looks to be about $50 a foot at 6 feet wide? is it glued down?
do you have more pics of during the install?

Thanks
Saverio

Saverio, are you talking about the cockpit or the cabin?

The cockpit is original Flexiteek http://www.flexiteek.com , it's glued and it comes in 1.77" (or larger) wide rolls. The cabin floor is made out of teak and holly plywood planks that are glued on the original floor after the carpet was removed.

I'm sorry but I do not have any other pic...

Pietro

Pietro,
What was the model on the Dometic AC that you installed. I know it's been said many times but beautiful boat, well done.

That's the tag on my salon a/c, the one I substituted some 8 years ago:

That's the original one for the master stateroom:

the flooring outside not the cabin.
So its just glued down? how are the seams holding up?
it really does just chsnge the look of the boat. outstanding job on your part of colors and material.
I can t believe a marina did all the work? It seems more like a custom fabraction facility!!!!

Having lived in Italy many years ago, one would have to understand the Italian mantra.......Go big or go home.....Armani, Gucci, Ferrari, Lambo, Stiletto heels, the Amalfi Coast, the Vatican, Pietro's 39 restoration..... The list is endless...... Even parking a Fiat is a work of art.

Ciao.

yes it's just glued down and it's holding up quite well! The fitting is not much different from real teak, only the planks are flexible and it helped because my cockpit floor wasn't perfectly flat.

yes, the boat yard at my marina did it all, but I had to give them precise instructions and not everything is as good as I wanted too...

David you are putting me in the same league of Michelangelo!!! You are flattering me! ......send me a message should go come back to Italy!

AHHHHH!!!!! From what little I recall of the attitude south of the Ancona Wall, I do recall very well. If a task was completed while only encountering The Domani Syndrome you were blessed. IF just maybe it was completed in a Dopo Domani Debacle, you were considered damn lucky. If it ever got to the ill fated Dopo Dopo Domani Attack, you were better off just banging your head on some fresh Tufa Stone, going to the trottoria, having a tall Amaro and calling it a day.

Am I close?!?!?!!?

You are spot on!!! :grin::grin::grin:

I would just include the trattoria in any of the aforementioned case!
