Update June 2010
2003 390MY
In second month of ownership and no problems in bilge, getting up on plane, or steerage. Will check bottom paint adherance in fall at pull out and update this post.

Appears to be much ado about nothing at this point.

Update:
2003 390MY

Purchased the boat after inspecting interior bilge area shaft tube layup and finish. No water intrusion issues and chalking it up to the hot mix setting before factory workers had time to smooth out.

Will update this post if anything bad develops and also after fall pullout and inspection.

This post was originally pre-purchase after finding uneven glass job just forward of both shafts on bottom of the hull.

Other posts suggested common Sea Ray manufacturing practice where hull is made without the shaft holes which are then cut later on.

-------------------------------------------------
The shaft tube is installed after the hull leaves the mold. Sometimes its a good fit, other times it isn't, but either way the tube is sealed into the hole with resin and cavisil. Sometimes an air pocket gets in the "putty", and a leak follows. I think the proper way, and it is the way our dealer fixes it, is to lay in some glass mat and resin bonding the shaft tube to the hull then fair it with a thin layer of cavisil.

It has occurred before so it is a known issue, but isn't that common. I've seen it before because we are at a dealer owned marina with 150 inboard Sea Rays in wet slips.

Did not get any comments so either a commonly found item or no one esle has seen it before.

Is there an 'official' 390 MY thread anyplace here?
Cheers.
