Have to remove the Westerbeke generator from a 2000 380 Sundancer. The boat is on the hard.
Looks like the starboard rail under the hatch has to come out and the starboard engine exhaust. Then the generator can be lifted out on the side. Is this how others did it?
Have a forklift that can lift the generator.

Found this thread but it's for gas engines.

this pic was posted a while back but this was on a 410. I don’t know if they put the engines closer together in the 380 so your outboard clearance would be the same or if they kept the inside spacing the same and reduced the outboard space?

Either way you have the right idea. Im sure you could take pieces of the Gen off if it’s just a shade too big to clear

Ryan, thanks. The boat doesn't arrive (by truck) until tomorrow. Rebuilding the Westerbeke will be the tent pole for getting boat in the water. Want to get it out and to the shop asap.

No chance of an in frame overhaul on the Gen? It’s a pain to get to and if it needs significant work I’m sure unhooking it does make the most sense

The mount rails are badly rusted so have to be replaced. Want to get it out and rebuilt. While out, will clean and paint that side of the engine bay. Come fall, may pull the starboard engine and send it to be rebuilt, to match the port remanufactured engine.

gotcha. Getting the exhaust off that side is pretty easy and you won’t have to dismantle much else. Maybe the crankcase breather but that’s a single clamp. The coolant expansion tank also unbolts fairly easy and could be slid a couple inches out of the way but I doubt that’s necessary

@rondds documented doing it on a gas 380 about 6 yrs ago on our site - lots of good pictures...

Have looked through them. The gas engines appear to be shorter and further forward, allowing the generator to slide back behind the starboard engine (between the engine and the transom).
The mechanic that did the engine survey in St. Pete has removed them before. Was going to have him do it there but was able to get a transport truck earlier than the quoted mid-June. He gave some tips. I'll post pictures during the process.
