We are looking at buying a 2001 380 aft cabin. We discovered the aft bilge was full. Service found that the aft shaft seal and housing were leaking, and a bent prop on the same side. They are replacing/repairing the prop, new sealant housing and bilge pump, and changing the impellar on the generator.
Boat has 220 hours, generator 160.
Would you shy away from the boat, or go for it? They will be giving us a 30 day powertrain guarantee.
This is a purchase from Marine Max, not a private seller.

Jeff,
I have that same boat. Great water-front condo, poor cruiser, unless you are getting one with diesels. I basically have had both engines rebuilt, and am waiting to hear about the sea trial. I will be on it this weekend and will run the boat myself. I absolutely LOVE the boat as a condo. Depends on your intended use. I will be happy to talk further with you about this.

Good Luck, and have an independent survey done on the boat and another one on the engines.

Paul

If the shaft seal is leaking and the prop is bent, I'd also want an INDEPENDENT survey of the shaft, strut and bearing. You ARE having an Independent Survey.....Hull and Mechanical......right?

Completely agree with Paul. Our whole family loves the boat as water front condo. They don't care if we go very far but we do anchor out almost every weekend. But she cruises pretty heavy (more fuel/less speed). But I still love the boat.

Survey survey survey! Bent shaft means likely grounded hard. Make sure the survey specifically looks for related trouble.

Good luck!
