I’m planning to buy a Searay 34 ft about a 2011. There are two different engines available, the large 8.1 and the slightly smaller 377. I’m not looking for a speedboat, just cruising but would like to plane easily without killing the engines. Any help would really be appreciated.

The big block will get you on plane quicker and able you to cruise slightly slower. It has more torque then the small block. The small block will be over working itself to do he same job.

8.1's all day, everyday

But Diesel's if you can squeeze 'em in!!:)

Can you imagine diesel's in a 34?
I don't care about access, but @MasterFab or the like would have to do the install.

Thanks so much! And one more thing: v drive, direct drive or stern drive for a boat that will likely be dry stored

The only straight drive will be an 80's EC, even the dancers back then were v-drive. But V-drive over out drive everyday of the week.
