340SDA Split Wiring for forward V-Berth Reading lights and Closet Lights

Thanks for posting this Kevin. After a 2-week trip my wife was asking about this and I hadn’t given it much thought. I’ll be ordering a new switch.

Omg! I just bought my 2005 320 and this has been driving me crazy! I thought there must be something I was missing. Why would these all be wired together so that I can’t shut off the lights in my bed as the last thing I do before I go to sleep?!?! I’ve done some wiring on my cabin, but not on a boat. Biggest issue for me would be locating places for switches and routing wiring. I have to get this fixed. It’s not ok!

I added a separate switch to my 320 for the reasons described. Couldn't turn everything thing off without killing the master at the steps.

Ugh! Can’t believe it’s done that way. Was it a mistake? I have the same issue in the 2005 320 I just purchased. Was your fix easy? I like this idea. Seems simple enough. Thanks!

I did it, works great. Simple fix.
Ok Korkie. I saw your other post about this and you originally mentioned a possibly easier fix without adding an additional switch. I know you added it so you wouldn’t have to climb on the bed to shutoff the reading lights, but what if I don’t care about that for now. Is there a quick fix as you started to discuss? Thanks from a newb!

Ok. How simple? Can you give a brief explanation?

If you can strip wire and crimp in a terminal end its one of the simplest mods around. I laid out all the wiring in the pictures. You will just need a little extra to create the small bridges.

Not hard but took a couple hours. Wire fishing and splicing. Cutting hole for switch.

Yep, you could simply move one wire to the positive. You will still need to cut wire and crimp unless you cheat with one of those scotchlok crimp connections (which I would not recommend for long term use on a boat).

The problem is the two light sets were crimped into one terminal so you need to separate them.

Kevin,
Could you send a schematic. Bar napkin drawing is fine. Easier form me than following write up and pics. Thanks
