I have a seaward hot water tank in my 89 DA and I notice that the hoses on the port side are cut off:smt021 i do have the gray plastic pipe hooked up for the cold inlet and the hot outlet. Where do the other 2 hoses go. What size is it and how long? I am picking away at this boat that I got last fall and we are almost in the water.
Thanks
Bob

Rubber hoses?? I have 2 5/8 heater hoses that come off my engine to the hot water heater to heat the water

I suspect they are for the hot water off of the engine for the heat exchanger, as lime4x4 stated. If they are cut off - they were probably bypassed for a reason. So be sure change check for leaks when you hook them back up.

Yes they were cut maybe they burned out the element? But why are there 2 of them and where do they go on the engine? I don't see anywhere where they were hooked up?:smt101

The hot water heaters use either electricity (the element) or hot water heat exchanger from the engines. Separate things. The element could be non-functional, and you could still get hot water from the heat exchanger (if it was hooked up). And vis-versa.

Not sure where exactly they go on the engine. If you don't see anywhere, then perhaps the boat was re-powered and they left this off? They will likely plumb in just like the heater core in a car. Same concept. Circulate part of the water flow from the engine cooling out the 5/8" hoses for another purpose and return it back to the system.

I can look on my 2000 340 next time I'm at the boat, if nobody else jumps in.

Mine was tied into the big hose that comes off the water pump and then at a fitting by the thermostat housing

On my 5.7 one end goes into the water pump. if the pump was replaced, the new pump comes plugged. The plug is removed and a 1/2" ips nipple is installed, the 5/8 hose slides over it, to heater. The other side goes into the top of the intake manifold, from the manifold to the hose is 1/2" street 90, 1/2 x 6 nipple, 1/2" tee with nipple on the run and temp sensor on the branch, hose over 1/2" nipple to heater. Hope this helps.

So if I'm following you correctly, it goes into the intake where the temp sensor is?

Cool. Ours was unconnected too when we got her. Not sure if it was never hooked up or disconnected because it leaked or...

May re-plumb and see what happens...

Here are a couple of pictures.
The first two show the hoses on the starbord engine.
One black and one blue on mine.
The third picture is of the port engine by-pass
