340 SUNDANCER THREAD

See what you can engineer and I will try to work this project with you. If you do come up with any wiring schematics let me know and if this mod hasn't been documented maybe it can be used as a model for others to upgrade their boats 12v system....there is much room for improvements that's for sure!
Eric
I have the wiring schematics from the owners manual. If you dont have, you can download for your model directly from the Sea Ray website under Owners Resources.

The generator battery is located in a custom milled battery tray, right next to the generator. A heat shield is located on the side of the battery, to protect it from radiant heat (it's probably superfluous, but it also acts as a mounting point for the electrical wiring).

The remaining 4 batteries are now in the mid stateroom, in the storage lockers under the port and starboard seats. I have to provide a strong caution here - these batteries are AGMs, not wet or gel cells. They are mounted on thick fiberglass bases, and are held down with thick, machined aluminum bars mounted on 1" diameter machined aluminum stands. The cables are insulated and booted, and the hold downs are covered with thick plastic on the side adjacent to the battery posts, so even if the batteries were to move (unlikely), and the posts contacted the hold downs, there would be no short circuit. It goes without saying that it is absolutely critical that any batteries in a marine environment are properly mounted and secured against damage, vibration, movement, short circuit, etc. I also have a Pronautic charger, equipped with a temperature sensor, connected to all these batteries. In the event of excessive battery temperature, the charger shuts down, protecting the batteries and vessel from damage.

I really like that idea of relocating the batteries and also, thank you for the tips on accessing the engines and components. It sounds like you had to do quite a bit of work to make the bilge user friendly though, and I am not sure I am that knowledgeable. I have rewired electrical systems before, however. Can you tell me how you handled the splitting out of the house and starting legs? I believe these both run to the battery solenoids in the main panel now, which would require pulling this wiring out of here and routing through charging relays, etc. Did you continue to keep everything wired through these electronic battery switches when you upgraded or use standard battery switches?
I will also check out your blog.
Thanks for all the information!

I downloaded them from Sea Ray this evening. I will have to check my port side storage compartment midship for space. My bowthruster fuse block and main Perko switch is in there. I really want to do this to free up some space and feel the weight transfer is needed in this stern heavy boat. I agree with the AGM batteries and of course I have brand new SLA batteries that the previous owner just put in. I still need to figure how to incorporate isolation. This should be an interesting mod.

Theres a good chance I need to replace my refrigerator in the cabin.. What manufacturer and model would be a good replacement and fit for me to consider? Thanks -

If u have Waeco Coolmatic RPD 110 then it should be a Norcold DE-07881 or Dometic Tundra Frig TJ42RE

Hello 340 folks. Don't want to step on any current topics but I have a question. Recently took delivery of a 2003 340. One "issue" with the boat is the anchor actually makes contact with the bow of the boat when it is in the fully retracted position! There is small fiberglass damage to prove it. Has anyone else had this problem? I am wracking my brains trying to determine the easiest way to prevent it....without large amounts of time or money.

Love this forum. Incredible amount of information. Thank you.

As a followup, checked when on the boat this weekend. Fully retractec I have about 1 to 1.5 inches between the point of the anchor and the gel coat.

Standard sea ray anchor that came with the boat.

I just went through that very problem!!! Traced the water leak back to the starboard skylight glass. It was dripping down on the salon settee then running down the salon carpet then ending up in the aft section. I removed that cylinder trim below the skylight, ran a hose over the skylight and that did confirm my suspicion. I called my glass guy and he came out and re-caulked with the thick black stuff that he does his windshields with. Hasn't leaked since.:smt038

I recaulked both skylights, but still have damp carpet. I now think it may be caused when I fill the fresh water tank (seems to coincide with that event now that I'm paying attention). Any ideas where the fill hose runs? I know the water tank is in the center of the aft berth bench seat, but I don't know where the fill line or vent line runs.

Just bought a 2001 340 and cant wait to get on it. Wondering if you guys know where I can get replacement filler cushions for the stern seating area. We are missing a few. Thanks for the help and I'm sure I will have some questions for you all.

I have a 2005 340SD New to me. I cant figure how to power up either DVD player?
the tv's turn on. Am I missing a switch or something?

I took out my cockpit ice maker and tried to salvage it but it is too far gone. So,... any sugestions as to what to fill the hole with? there is a ton of space back there and I would like to see how others have utilized this area after removing the icemaker. I also considered replacing it with a frig....what one to put in there???

stupid question maybe but where do you plug the vacuum hose into for the central vac? The hose was stored under the salon sofa but I couldn't find the input or controls??? 340 newbie...

Could you please update your profile from a 2004 Four Winns and tell us exactly what year your 340 is? That will really help you get an answer. For example - there is no storage under an '03 to '08 340 salon sofa...

Not sure what model you have, but mine is on the right hand side (facing dinette) of the base of the dinette. When you plug the hose in, the vaccuum comes on automatically as long as the outlet switch is on in the main panel.

On my 340 (2006 model) there is an "outlet" in the storage area, that looks just like a standard electrical plug-in outlet, but it has a flap you lift, then you insert the hose and give it a turn (it will start as soon as this connection is made). I'm pretty sure all later model 340s have the same system. I hope you find it.

Cool, I didnt know that. My boat has a vacumn, never been used.

Sorry have a 2001. Looked all over the place but can't find it. Where is the bag stored? Maybe I can find it from that.

You will find the vacuum Under the dinette seat right side as you face it.
