340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Hello! Newbie here, just closed on a 2001 340DA. Boat currently docked in downtown Fort Lauderdale. I am looking for an experienced owner of similar model to go thru some of the intricacies as I have some tech questions but would find it easier with his or her presence. Dinner, Lunch, Beverage, Etc would be a pleasure to meet local owners. Thanks!

Dang...I wish I was in Florida. Talking boats AND a free beer? I'd be all over this :)

Thanks so much! The hubs thought that maybe the table was used to make the bed. We will look.

I'm looking at purchasing my first Sea Ray, soon hopefully. It appears that since Covid, prices have gone up and inventory is down. I've been researching/looking at 2000-2007 340 Sundancers and seem to be a very popular model. What are the differences over these years, I think there was a redesign 2003-04? What other changes did Sea Ray make to these models? What issues should I be looking for? I did look at one that had a soft spot near the windlass and decided to pass on it due to the cost of repairing it. I leaning towards 8.1's with V-drives. Thanks in advance for any advice.

FYI the 340 started in 99 so if you're not afraid of being stuck in the 90's, be sure to include 1999 in your searches.

The change in 2003/2004 made for a massively different boat both inside and out. The newer is generally more highly sought after because of the sexier lines (IMO). The two models of 340 you mentioned really only share the model identifier, not much more :)

Foredeck rot is quite popular in the 330/340's in the late 90's. I don't believe that issue persisted into the new models but I could be wrong. I looked at countless wet 330's before finding my 340...which was also wet....but repaired to the tune of $14k before I bought it.

Good luck in your search!

Good luck in your search. I have been unable to locate a decent one. I had 7 serious candidates (1999-2001). 5 had deck moisture issues. 2 where sold before I could look. The ones after the 2003 revision are nice, but are priced significantly higher.

I liked the Cockpit of the 99-02 models over the 03-04. But the outside look is sharp on 03-04. BUT they do have the giant vents that get damaged and fall off.

I assume 1.5" duck bills fit our boats? anyone confirm? Still working but sometimes hear pump kick back on, sometimes I don't so going to knock this out before seasons in full effect.

Thanks,

I went with this kit, 4 new Ducks, new bowl seals, flush ball, Shaft, and spring Cartridge. 126 bucks shipped. Figured 50 on new ducks, and 40 on new bowl might as well just knock out the wear items and have all new sealing parts. Only have one dirty hands day ha

You may want to consider the vacuum generator diaphragm and O-rings while your there.

The head window in my Sundancer is leaking. While the seal is in there, and the latches are tight, it leaks like a siv between the plexiglass 'window' and the seal. I can see where the prior owner attempted to use silicone to fix the problem. I'm trying to figure out whether I can just locate a replacement seal, or if I have to replace the entire window, frame and all.

I need the seal for my 380 windows also. As a temp fix, I wedged a quarter between the latch to apply more pressure and that ended the leak, on one I put 2 quarters....

I ended up google searching, there are a bunch of posts on Club Sea Ray (that for some reason you can't find by just searching on here. The Bomar kit they reference is largely no longer available. I purchased a roll of this stuff, and am hoping it's the same gasket material as comes in the referenced kits.
